Has anyone ever done a stacked leather washer grip for a sword? I know it will work, but is there a downside? I've had a number of knives that had these as a handle (Marine KaBar etc). In my mind, this is a simple thing to make, heck, I could even dye and seal it. Thoughts?

I haven’t done it for a sword, but I have for knives. As long as the slot in the washer is a really close fit to the tang, it’s a fool and bulletproof method. The bond is all mechanical. Shape the washers once they are in place, sand, dye, burnish (that’s an important step), and seal it with Sno-seal or similar.
I can’t think of any reason it wouldn’t work on a sword, and I’d love to see what you come up with.

I've got a couple of Hanwei Tinker Fullered Bastard Swords I have been wanting to swap handles for. This might happen today...
