been a while but thought i had to post my progress on my attempts at a more book accurate version of twinkle and icing death in the past i made drizzts original swords he had in the artwork ( sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/55504/school-drizzt-dourden-build-finished)

said then my skill set was still way off attempting what MOK had designed but im finally catching up with my ambition this is what i have so far

since no real description exists for twinkle i winged it and tried for an elven feel, both made from non hardened steel stock (basically display pieces) and not finished yet, twinkle has a "mythral" (aluminum) guard forged into the shape of an oak leaf with a motif of oak leaves winding around the wood handle, a cast metal concho and plastic sapphire round out the piece. icingdeath has a solid adamantine (wood) handle,adamantine (steel and metal putty) guard, (plastic) gems inset in the handle and amber (glass) beads for the eyes,

stats

twinkle icingdeath

blade length:85cm/33" 81cm/31"

blade width: 30mm/1.5" 30mm/1.5"

guard width: 15cm/6" 11.5cm/4.5"

handle length: 13.5cm/5.5" 12.5cm/5"

handle width 26mm/1" flare to 40mm/1.5" 40mm/1.5" taper to 255mm/3/4"

curve: both have same curve of 80mm/3inches from table to spine

p.o.b: approximate center of blade

weight: 658grams/23oz 637grams/22.5oz

whilst there not perfect by long stretch im super pleased with them and think the beat any production version for book accuracy including this 200 dollar set of toys

yeah im back been a loong time, but having first kid, changing career and life in general has kept me busy, skill levels are finally catching up to ambition levels lol, been watching alot of creative people on youtube and garnering pointers that way also working as a welder full time has taught me a whole lot about patience and how to visualize things

thanks was trying to think of something that would appeal to elves and thought since oaks take years to develop, and grow for even longer, that would be something they would find attractive and be reflected in their art, unsurprisingly googling elven sword brings up lots of lord of the rings style stuff

apologies for the extended finish time on these have had no time to work on them due to work commitments and family commitments, have final sharpened and "polished" icingdeath just haven't had time to take pics and have done next to nothing more on twinkle so far will post pics once finalized which i hope wont be too much longer lol, icingdeath is definitely sharp sliced open back of my finger honing the edge and barely brushed the blade lol

finally got some time to finish this build decided to try etching some "magic" onto the blade of twinkle, using my homemade feric chloride, can just make it out, anyway here are the pics of final build

no chance im gonna try dual wielding these would probably mess myself up badly, anyhow thanks for lookin

The leaf guard is incredible and the perfect blend of adding some fantasy into a proper historical looking weapon.

thanks, seems i nailed it on the look lol, seemed fairly obvious to my mind, but when i was researching elven type blades all i came across were lord of the rings knock offs and they have been done to death so i wanted to go with something different, whilst maintaing a fantasy element

Recently picked up the "official" windlass models long discontinued.

I like them more than I thought. They handle very differently despite similar appearances.

There are many subtle differences in the hilts themselves, though the silver plating shows it's age (twenty years now! I call it weathering).

They are dull and I plan to fix that, but I really love what you've done. I know neither of the official prop hilts suggest the appearance of a great cat as referred to in the books.

look forward to seeing what you do with them, friend picked up the new release larp ones, and sent me some picks all i could think was the company has a word for word description of the blades how hard would it be to make a hilt that matches instead of making it a dragon,or at least make it a cat?
