I fired up the forge this morning and set out to make a knife with Spanish, Persian, and Syrian influences. The end result was pretty cool, but looked a bit familiar. Some Googling later, I figured out I’d made something strongly reminiscent of Indonesian designs. Pics to come, but has anybody else tried to make something new and then realized you had recreated the wheel?

Yes! I had heard of riveted mail, so tried it out, only knowing the words 'riveted mail. Ultimately I re-discovered wedge rivets.

Wow, does any sycamore look like that, or is this a special piece?

I’m not sure, but I’m going to see if I can find more.

I accidentally figured out the distinctive passing footwork of Krabi Krabong while wondering if you could do longsword-style passing steps in a more linear saber stance.
