Cool! But probably 4-5 lb I guess. The new toothpick is nice too. My ordered jian just arrived at the store, hope to get it this week right in time for swordmess!

Is it a left hander version? The ring seems to be on the left side.

Is it a left hander version? The ring seems to be on the left side. I'm just guessing but I bet there's either rings on both sides or they mirrored the photo without realizing the implications it would have to us. I guess we'll find out, since this is one of the swords BudK was going to send to SBG members for review.

I think the new cyclone push-dagger is pretty wicked lol 🙄 I'll stick with flat daggers...

It’s only $250 over at BudK. No weight given and not available until 1/8/21. Closeup of hilt shows ring only on same side as Honshu etching.

I can grok $250 if it's durable.

I've looked at the broadsword, the Combat Commander Gladius thing is decent for being so cheap I think United is actually making some decent blades of late.
The twisty push dagger is silly but...it's a dagger are you going to worry about fine cutting? It should stab the hell out of a target and that's 90% of what you need it to do,if it breaks all you need to worry about is cost if it's cheap then it's disposable.
The full retail on this is SNAFU if you ask me though.

The full retail on this is SNAFU if you ask me though. My biggest beef with the M48 line is that some of them are straight up cast stainless steel so they can get those cut outs and ridges and holes without expensive machining. So they're potentially compromising blade quality in pursuit of an aesthetic that does nothing to make the blades cut or stab better. I don't worry about *fine* cutting but I like to be able to do *some* cutting, not to mention the ease of carrying a flat blade compared to that. I have a pair of CS safemaker 1s that I love, and I have trained slashes with them both in bottle cutting and sparring with plastic trainers. I haven't tested any of the combat commander items but I see no reason why they wouldn't perform well enough for what they are. I wouldn't expect the edge retention or springyness of even a CS machete from them.

In general I follow the rule that if it's a knife stainless or carbon doesn't matter much, once you get to a blade past, say, ten inches that may flex I look for carbon steel of some sort, granted badly done carbon can still mess up (like shatter) but it may also just bend and stay bent stainless can do some nasty things in longer blades. United has a new Gladius that I like but the blade's stainless so,nope.

United has a new Gladius that I like but the blade's stainless so,nope. The Honshu gladiator? I dunno. It's only 18 inches and is chunky enough to be stiff. If properly tempered it could work fine. The Windlass Cobra Steel swords are similar in size and stainless. Schrade uses stainless in its bolo and makaira machetes. As a teenager, I had this super cheap wallhanger ninjato. You've probably seen one, the chunky ones with wrapped scabbards. I chopped the rat-tail off with a hacksaw, then ground the first six inches of the blade into a new full tang and wrapped it. I then proceeded to beat the absolute stuffing out of it on trees. It's a miracle I didn't get hurt, but it held up like a champ. The danger of mystery SLOs is their unpredictability. So I guess what I'm saying is I'd give a stainless shortsword a chance *if* it's full tang, from a known manufacturer and advertised as heat treated and meant for use.

I am excited. What testing are you planning to do? Video? Something like what I did with the Shikoto katana in the review section, but, uh... better. More durability testing since a monotempered 1060 sword with a tactical theme can reasonably be expected to handle more of that than a differentially hardened T10 katana.
