So I have a gladius being made by Purna of GGK, it's his first ever of a gladius so this should be a great weapon to behold, he's very excited to make it as he had just watched a forged in fire episode where they made this very weapon. I'll update when more images are available. Here is the drawing of what will be made.

OMG, I wanted to ask him to make one! The only thing holding me back is I'm not sure if he could make an authentic scabbard. How are you communicating that?

It's funny you asked about the scabbard that the part I tried to communicate with him and I don't think he quite grasped that so I decided I wouldn't have him make that for me, so I'll have to purchase a scabbard elsewhere for it.

The only thing I am a stickler about with Roman swords is the scabbard. Still, anything he makes will be light years better than my Deepeeka.

Speaking of Deepeeka, the scabbard I have is quite good. Would it help if Purna had detailed photos?

I guess it wont hurt, I was actually thinking about getting a deepeeka gladius just for the scabbard to use on mine, as you say the blades will be light years ahead of anything except custom or Albion.

That's so funny I had that exact scabbard I showed him only it was in a dark brown leather color, same brass work too, he said the brass work would be the trouble part and he wasn't sure he could do it, but I didn't want to put to much pressure on him to make a new type of sword & a new scabbard so I just went with the sword for the time being.

You may be right. For a Roman sword, the brass work on this scabbard is simple.

Well, I am glued to this thread. Likewise, likewise... I absolutely love his hatchets too. (Not mine but I'd like one...) Something to keep in mind for the brass parts is that, as he does everything by hand (especially carvings), he may have to make new tools from scratch to make them.

I am already planning to ask him to make me one. I want a Sisak variation gladius, perhaps something almost spatha-like in terms of length.

What are the materials going to be on this one? Also, any distal taper specs?

What are the materials going to be on this one? Also, any distal taper specs? Wood Pommel, grip & guard will be shaseem wood or how ever you spell it, bronze plate for the inset guard and pommel nut. I gave him the blade length, overall length and weight of what I wanted, he said he would take care of the rest, should I have mentioned distal taper to him or by him saying he'll take care of it was that his way of saying he will know based on my specs?

This is the rub so far as I am concerned. We make a big stink in the year 2020 about distal taper, but given how so many of these archaeological finds, upon which we make our assumptions, are in such a terrible state of condition, many of them may not have distal taper at all.
I think we can logically conclude that the gladius should have some form of distal taper, but it should have a reinforced tip. That, in my opinion, is critical. It's a thrusting weapon, the point should be tough.
The spatha, on the other hand, can be a reinforced tip too, but late spatha, like a 3rd century type, seem to be more for slashing and chopping.
I would remind Purna that the point should be strong.
