Hey guys so another project I am working on is a collaboration design with KHHI to( if all goes well) be put on their website as a regular purchasable item.
For this one, It is definitely a departure from the usual stuff that I have drawn up in terms of the additional features and design caveats that are present because of the collaborative nature of it.
It's application is more of a modern combat/utility knife.
These are the proposed specs:
• Blade Steel: 5160 OR 52100
• Blade Length : 18 cm( 7 inches)
• Blade style: Tanto tip geometry.
• Fuller: One each side.
• Blade thickness: 7 mm( 0.28 inches)
• Blade width: 4 CM( 1.6 inches)
• Blade finish: Polished
• Guard Material: Steel
• Guard Length: 6.5cm(2.6 inches)
• Guard thickness: 7mm(0.28 inches)
• Handle Contour: (See photo)
• Handle length: 13 cm( 5.12 inches)
• Handle material: Black Smoke Micarta(Khhi's Black Micarta recipe)
• Handle pins: L-KEY SET UP
• Pommel: Hardened extended tang "glass breaker" with landyard hole.
• Tang: Full
• Scabbard: kydex with Leather belt loop and snap closure.(see photo)
Knife sketch:

Handle Contour style:

Sheath system, Hybrid, leather + Kydex. Similar to my other custom here:

Design elements:
The American Tanto style with downward spine angle placing the strong point in line with the handle for optimum thrusting positioning regardless of how it's being used (Forward grip, Reverse grip). The secondary point will lend itself to snap-cutting and aggressive contact-cutting as it will act somewhat like a wharncliffe. Cold Steel's Andrew Demko has a few videos explaining the way this works. The thickness and geometry of the blade will also allow for wood splitting. The Fullers should reduce friction with this application.
The handle is influenced by the Randall Model 14 Border Patrol handle which is just a classic and solid design, It should serve well in any grip. The extended "glass breaker" follows the flow of the handle without becoming overly uncomfortable to the hand (Out of the way), May not be the optimal design for very large hands, Of course it can be ordered slightly larger in the handle.
KHHI ( Saroj Lama Tamang ) has confirmed their satisfaction with the end design so it should go through as per what we are seeing here.
