Well I done a fun sword design I might have made tell me what you all think? It was just a really quick sketch and based it on...a Native copper knife with a bit of a fantasy design. Is it reasonable?

If you can clean up the sketch a bit, It would greatly aid in the view of the components and blade profile. What kind of feedback are you hoping for? It seems fine and functional. I don't know what thickness or blade width you were hoping for. Not sure if you meant 31-33 inches or 31-37 inches but 37 inches would probably be too long for the handle length IMO. It also wouldn't meet your weight requirement at that length. From what I can tell though, It's certainly doable, Purna Darnal could do this for a few hundred and it would be easy work. I was just showing it since I thought it was a slightly silly but interesting looking blade design. I also seeing it tapering from a relatively thick base at 5mm to that of a 2mm. I can see it as nimble in the band that is mostly slashing and chopping. At the same time, I even considered making it shorter.

Doesn't look too silly to me, definitely doable. It actually looks like a Filipino Pinute to me. Those have much shorter blades then you were thinking though, like 16-20 inches. I would say to go 1-handed, 20-inch blade, 1.5 inch wide. 6mm at the base with an immediate but gradual distal taper to 2mm and then shorten the handle to where the grippable length is just 1/4 inch longer then your own palm measured across. These would be my suggestions. I think this better fits, proportion-wise, with what a modern fighters sword would be in my view. Thanks! I am going to see some improvements today. It was definitely fun to work with and much more comic book like than a katana. I dunno I think action hero.

My only thought is this would be really tip heavy, and a chopper.

I wouldn't go more than 28" for the blade and probably no more than 24".

Here is an update on the modern fighters design I did with DnD and well I shortened the blade and made it more usable and I am curious what you all think.

I can see the "field work" aspect of the design, but y our design looks like a sword for use on an unarmed and unarmored opponent (zombie??) If you are fighting someone also armed with a sword and possibly wearing armor, that design would not be my choice.

Though I was thinking something more modern (Albeit also a fantasy fight).

Here is an update on the modern fighters design I did with DnD and well I shortened the blade and made it more usable and I am curious what you all think. Still seems long and heavy for a "modern fighter." Assuming a modern fighter is carrying firearms and ammo, weight becomes a big consideration. One advantage in battle is having more ammo than the other guy so why carry a heavyish sword when you can carry more ammo. I'd be thinking something quick deploying and good in tight spaces because that's where it's likely to be needed. If it's post-apocalypse and guns and ammo are rare, then your design fits the bill (although I'm thinking it still might be too forward weighted for the blade length).

I just played some fallout new vegas and well it kinda looks like it XD. I am now thinking of revamping the design. I want to have some sort of fun with this design..though I might even do a seax design.

Hmm. Interesting. You might look at some yatagan type swords and bayonets for similar ideas.

Updated with a different look to the blade...I edited it to look more like a seax. It was so interesting I even had KHHI take a look at it.
