Ok so for anyone even vaguely into games, you are probably aware that new console releases have been a huge mess. Pre-orders were not organized which allowed primarily the lucky and people who could refresh for 10 hours in a row to be the main group that got a system. Scalpers have also brutalized everything with their bots and seem to be monopolizing all of the stock that is coming through now. There are thousands and thousands of Ps5s readily available- if you want to be double retail or more. I despise scalpers, but it is very tempting as there is no hard evidence these things will be legitimately gettable in the mext few months...the f*ing bots are relentless and quite frankly I think it is also possible the sites are being crashed somehow so the bots get literally everything before regular consumers can get in. Of course the companies do not care as sales are sales. I want the system at launch for one game alone- the Demon's Souls remake. These games are highly desirable on launch because they have a tendency to get spoiled by youtube algorithms and the experience is reduced. Thoughts?

Never buy new tech on the first day of release. It's too expensive, too untested, and too unreliable. Patience is a virtue. In 6 months you wont' have these issues.

the only reason I'd get a PS5 would be for God of War Ragnarok. Otherwise I have migrated to PC. Been Playing Black ops Cold War all morning and loving it.

There is no bigger From Soft fan than I am, but I'm in no particular rush to get a PS5. I'll pick up a digital edition one when they are available through normal retail outlets.

I was a console cowboy for a loooooong time, switched to PC in January with my D2 clan. I have hopped back just once for Ghosts of Tsushima. It is a major bummer about the scalpers, same thing is happening with video cards for pc right now.

I would be down with PC if it weren't instead the more pricey option of the bunch

Probably best to wait for a price drop or deal to go on sale. For the past two generations, Sony and Microsoft almost always release a newer version of their consoles that seem to have the bugs and kinks worked out from initial release date. Everyone remembers the Red Ring of Death for the original Xbox 360. I've already considered building a PC, and me and my friends plan to continue using our current Xbox Ones for Modern Warfare and Warzone for as long as possible. Demons Souls remastered though, it is very tempting.

I gave up on consoles and eventually playing games entirely a long time ago. I can literally just go watch the campaigns on mkiceandfire for whatever game I want (the demon souls remake looks wicked). The industry really is a Skelton of its former self on so many levels in my opinion. Good memories though, I remember beating the entire faze clan by myself once a long time ago.
Cheers

If it wasn't a FROM game at stake, I would share the very reasonable opinions of this thread. But it is, and for me it is maddening that I won't get a chance to play it until long after every particle of the game has been said and done, and plastered all over Youtube. Those games are just reduced, for me at least, if you are playing them long after the fact. And knowing, quite possibly, its like this for me and plenty of others due to greedy-ass scalpers, is insult to injury. Their bots won't stop until the supply/demand curve evens out, and that may not be for a long time.

To be fair if you are playing Demon's Souls now you are already 11 years behind, and it has been plastered all over youtube for a long time, so as long as you just avoid new videos of the remake you should be fine, you already lost out on experiencing the game fresh the first time. But yeah, scalpers suck and the lack of consoles sucks, here in Norway several people who preordered have been told they won't get theirs before summer 2021 at best. I think we have reach a level of consumerism on tech like this they have no way of creating enough supply at launch, the PS5 had more preorders in 12 hours than the PS4 did in 2 weeks just in the US alone.

Haven't been much on games since the PS2 era, but a buddy of mine managed to order a PS5 from Sony Direct after struggling with Target and Walmart online ordering.
My girlfriend is happy with her switch and PC, so we likely won't be getting any new consoles for a good while, but I generally prefer to wait a year for new tech, anyway. Let the kinks be worked out first, let the hype die down...

I have already played Demons, after the fact though, as I went through it after Dark Souls 1 & 2. Still, the remake has enough new coats of paint on it to be a fresh enough experience to spoil.
Good for your friend, I have no clue how they did it. Raw luck really.
The scalpers generally seem to be pretty vile, and all want every cent they can get, with no sympathy towards genuine gamers...which might indicate most of them aren't.
I am borderline ashamed of saying so, but I am sort of furious about this whole thing. I am usually mature and reasonable, but not on the topic of this release and the behavior that it has brought out. I could pay double but I just can't bring myself to encourage a scalper. All I can do is wait.

Every new console is the same, every time. I remember the Wii, especially, was awful. I used to work in the electronics section of my store at that time, and we'd limited sales to one unit per person, but this one family would come in as soon as we opened, every day we managed to get any in, and would each buy one Wii. We weren't allowed to refuse them, because the wording was "one per guest, per day" so as long as they each came to the register separately, we couldn't pull the "We've already sold you five in the last two weeks. You don't get any more," or we'd be punished. They all used the same payment, too: a brand-new store credit card (which at the time, new accounts got 10% off everything for the first day) and thousands of dollars worth of gift cards once the card limit was reached.
I raised hell to management every time, but they always just shrugged, "A sale is a sale. We can't refuse them." I always argued we absolutely could, but it never went anywhere. I think, eventually, one of our AP guys caught them on something. Haven't seen them in years...

Don't forget that new releases often have significant problems. Remember the iphone that everybody was killing themselves over trying to get, but they ended up catching fire on the charger?
I can wait. I can't think of any reason why I need new tech on the first run release.
