So after seeing how Brother Nath's kukri's were great and then his bowie/knife he had made, I decided to contact him as well for a design of a kopis/kukri hybrid model. After some back and forth a price was agreed upon and drawing of what I wanted was sent to me to verify and lo and behold it has begun. Here is a picture of the drawing and one of the in progress. Final product will be a 20 inch blade, 5 inch handle with buffalo horn for the grip and brass guard.

I'll be in the market for a kopis eventually. This looks like an awesome design and a promising project. I can't wait to see the results.

It's looking sexy. Are their prices reasonable for commissioned work?

some sad news today, during the polishing phase he noticed a crack in the blade and had to scrap the entire thing and start over, ugh. So he will start a new blade tomorrow morning.

Yes that is a huge plus and he felt so bad when he was telling me this morning as we were discussing a possible another project.

They do have experience with Kopis too. And they ship very fast too (in fact, so fast that I inadvertently delayed the delivery date just by choosing morning delivery...it already arrived and has been sitting in DHL center for nearly two weeks now before I checked where it was...)

Looking great! I haven't had a response yet to my email inquiry, and I panicked slightly today when they had another Covid warning on their site, which has gone away mysteriously. I'm really looking forward to working with them. This is such an awesome piece.

Oh good God. I must admit a terrible, terrible blunder. I confused GGK with Kailash! I feel like such an imbecile. In my defense, I have had a horrible few weeks at work. Ok, I will reach out to GGK instead and undertake to clear out the cobwebs from my brain.

Hah don't be, I have orders in from both companies with two different topics going on with kukri's so it's natural to have a blending of topics :)

I am always amazed at how the Nepalese smiths are adapting their knowledge to other designs, similar or otherwise (from memory, there were viking swords, scottish dirks, chinese knives, elven daggers...and all the custom designs you never thought you needed but do now) Nothing seems impossible for them sometimes, the only limits being their available materials.
