I live in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia and we are used to periodic shortages of ammo and firearms and right now gun stores are stripped bare of all but the most expensive and unique firearms and ammo. The going rate for 9mm 115gr FMJ ammo is .60/round up from .20/round this time last year.
What part of the US do you live in and what changes are you seeing in the market? If this a nationwide situation and what do you all think is driving it? (Be careful about incurring the wrath of the mods for "political" commentary).

Fortunately I still have lots of ammo from stocking up for Y2K and some purchases in a few years after. 😏. Shows how much I shoot. So can’t help you with more recent prices.
Of course many things are causing the price increases. The shortages of other items at the beginning of rona. Anytime there is a presidential election coming up, especially if people think the dems might be in power. The civil unrest makes people uneasy. I’m sure others but that’s a general overview.

I'm in south Texas Gulf coast and .223 is limited to 40 rounds a person at my local store. Got about 100 55 grain .223 rounds for my rifle. Good quality pistols are easy enough to get. Glocks are overflowing, but ammo is scarce. 9mm is darn near impossible to get good quality. As for rifles, it's random distribution. Forget about ordering one, but you can always get a quality rifle at the store, although specifics are impossible. I got my Diamondback AR-15 when we went to pick up another AR-15 they had in stock because it was the same price as the pistol I was thinking about and works very well.

Northern DUCPRC (Democratic Upper Class People's Republic of Commiefornia) dweller here, right (1.5h away from) on the Nevada border. Harder to get here too.

If winter comes...rifles will be far more effective than pistols.

Only thing we need is more ammo. Got enough good firearms. Happily I have over 30,000 rnds of ammo stored up. All of my liberal/progressive friends who have been concerned about social unrest/upheaval have been; 1) asking to borrow firearms... NO!2) asking to buy firearms....... NO!3) Asking to buy ammo.......... NO!4) Wanted to know if things got bad can they come to my house... SURE but I will lash them to the front of my Suburban, my M75 APC and the barriers at the road blocks / check points Mad Max style and keep their wives and children as slaves!

It's too late to be thinking about it when the hard times are already at hand.

The lake? All my friends and neighbors lost their stuff in the lake in boating accidents. Dam shame really.

The lake? So many people with no seamanship skills... Davy Jones locker is WELL stocked indeed. Drunkenly rowing in a leaky rubber raft at night will ALL my guns..."what was I thinking"?!?

115 9 mm rounds is plenty. Either I lose within the first 5, or I just take some from someone else when I use up half my load.

Midwest here, ammo is not!
Rona, election.. Yeah, the truth is we are seeing the death of the Rule is Law each time businesses are razed and looted and the actions are excused by the media and politicians.
If the rule of law returns, you will see ammo return.

Yup. many of us have "lots" of weapons that we lost in boating accidents but the truth be told, you can only shoot one gun at a time and if you are in a gunfight, you will either win and get the other guys stuff...or you loose and dont care anymore.

West Tennessee here. No ammo to be found, especially .223/5.56 and 9mm/.45. Local firearms places are stripped of ARs, but there are Glocks and Kahrs to be found along with some S&W revolvers. Luckily, I already have all the firearms I could need and a good bit of ammo to boot. But more never hurts!
Exception is 12 gauge buckshot. Our cups runneth over from Wally World to local stores. All the shells you could want.

I got rid of a lot of my firearms to sack some money away. I never get rid of ammo, but yeah people are nuts buying wayyyy more than they will use.
I've got a couple of antiques, a nice Dan Wesson .45, and a fun .22. For me that's plenty. I'm going to avoid trying to buy anything for awhile, doing anything right now is a nightmare.
