So I'm thinking of getting myself a smallsword for this coming end-of-year holiday, and I'm tossing up between getting another deepeeka, or splurging a bit extra and buying myself a Cold Steel smallsword, so I wanted to get some opinions.
I have a Deepeeka swept hilt rapier which is one of my favorite swords, and they do a couple of different smallsword models, but I know that their quality is very hit-or-miss. Cold Steel, however, I've always considered outside of my price range until I discovered a place selling the smallsword at a fairly affordable rate.
Just wanted to know if anybody has any expirence with the Cold Steel smallsword as its definitely a much nicer looking blade, but I can't seem to find any video reviews on it anywhere.
Is it worth it to drop the extra cash on the Cold Steel? Or should I go the more afforable option?
Thanks!

There’s quite a difference in price and only you can decide if it’s worth the difference. We had a member, can’t remember his name, that had the CS Small Sword and loved it and mentioned it many times.

I did some searching and saw that there was a written review for the CS smallsword here, and it looked very favorable - although the user in question did get the sword for a shocking 100 USD which is a deal I would take in a heartbeat if I saw the chance.
Leaning towards splurging, though, I love the hollow-ground triangular blade on that CS smallsword - one of the Deepeeka models has a similar blade but the grind isn't as nicely done and the finish is a bit more dull, the CS one looks stunning.

They are on the heavier side, historically, so robust but probably not the best when dueling another smallsword, but pretty wicked against other weapons. Light for a sword, heavy for a smallsword. I bought one at $200, then another two seconds (rust issue at warehouse or something) on $100 sale.

The Cold Steel small sword is great and I think it is a good value!
It's a little heavy compared to other small swords but still a well balanced sword. Also the hilt is a bit smallish but that is a matter of preference.

Seems like going second-hand is the best option, time to try and figure out if anybody is selling one.

Spend twice as much and get a real antique one from the late 1700s or early 1800s. Bolk Antiques in the Netherlands often has a few for $300-400 or so.

As much as I'd like that, that's a bit outside my price range. Just checked their site and they have some lovely items, including a nice 19th century German small sword for around 450 Euros, which unfortunatly translates to almost $800 AUD, not counting shipping. Simply not something I can justify right now. Perhaps some day, but not any time soon.

Yeah, I see that it's currently unavailable on Amazon. Just hold on because sometimes it takes a while for knife and sword vendors to stock up and prices to settle.
Especially with the way things are now prices are changing rapidly! The CS gim is now over $300 when it was only about $200 less than a year ago!

CS Smallsword is a very good deal if you get around the $200 range, but don't pull the trigger near the $300 range.

I purchased a CS small sword from midway and sent it back because it was too heavy and clumsy for a small sword. I have a CS arming sword which I'm very satisfied with, so CS does very

This is an old thread, but I picked one up second hand. Will report back impressions after it arrives.

Surprisingly good. I thought I would like it - but I didn't expect to like it this much. The look attracted me. But it's the handling I like the most. Very light. Weightless. Dangerous thruster. Others stated this model is heavy compared to other smallswords. Where did they get that from? This thing is light as a feather. KoA offers a competing model just under a pound ($720). Here's a video of it in action: VID

Does anyone have the Cold Steel colichemarde (onus points if you also have a CS smallsword)?
I'd really like a few opinions on the CS colichemarde, and how it compares to swords of a similar "weight class."

My Louis XV era smallsword is 14oz. Both CS smallswords are half a pound heavy. Part of that mindset is durability and abuse. Other parts are a David Baker designed colichemarde and the other a modern epee blade and bulky hilt. Compare the two CS blade cross sections to period blades. Some like them and for good reason, they are lighter than other swords they are familiar with. Cheers GC Attachments:
