Yeah.. game probably over.... I think to my knowledge the only contender will be Jussi Ekholm with his Kamakura blade. He may win. 😋🤣

Yeah I have Oei-Bizen etc. and my new Sadatsuna might be older (possibly 1350), and I DO have an EARLY kamakura Ko-uda but it is not papered. So.. my submission is the Masamitsu given full provenance and 1390. 🤷🏻♂️

This blade and the Oei-Bizen (jirozaemon Katsumitsu) are both going for Juyo in the coming shinsa or two.

Well, that was a quick thread. Best I could've done is a "possibly kamakura" naginata-naoshi, but it's mumei, in old polish, and came with no papers, so no provenance. I'm also pretty sure it's not nearly that old, just because. Not that I have any way of knowing, it just doesn't "feel" that old. Way to kill the fun, Verity. Could've at least let someone else go first.

The mic drop moment supposed to come at the end not the beginning of the event.

Unfortunately I do not have anything from Kamakura period yet and most likely wont in near future, as I cannot afford swords for many years to come
I think the sword by Verity is remarkable in the sense as it is both signed and dated. Things get lot more scarce when you go back in time. Lots of signed & dated Japanese swords remaining even pre-1500, then they get lot fewer and rare pre-1400, going back pre-1350 makes it extremely difficult, and pre-1300 almost non-existant. So as the sword is verified and 1390 it is very rare historical object. I have recorded swords from the smith Masamitsu from 1361 up to 1399 (I know there is mention in Seskos index of a blade from 1357 but I haven't found that yet).
My oldest one is probably somewhere around 1350 to 1450. Impossible to say accurately as it is shortened and unsigned. It has an old attribution to bit unremarkable Hokke school. Not the best picture but it is very wide sword.
It will be great to hear what are oldest swords in other forum members collections. Some cultures like the Japanese are fairly easy to find really old swords. What antique stuff from various cultures people have?
