Not sure how I feel about Timothée Chalamet in the role of Paul Atreides...he seems a little too "delicate" but then again, he pulled off Henry V in The King.

Maybe it won't be a steaming pile of bull hockey like the first Dune movie, but Hollywood has a 0% record on remakes/reboots. I've got a bad feeling about this...

I have mixed feeling after seeing the trailer. There is a lot I really like. Visually it's quite impressive.
My biggest concern is the overt exclusion of the Islamic religious, Arabic language, Eastern European, North African, and Middle East Asian cultural influences, which are intrinsic to the setting/characters/story. Without them, this isn't Dune. It's just another space opera with mostly white faces and a Eurocentric setting.
I understand that commercials (especially first ones) are rarely cut by the filmmakers themselves, and that the target of this commercial is people unfamiliar with the IP (i.e. not me). Denis Villeneuve earned a lot of trust from me with his handling of the Blade Runner property. So....
I'm tentatively hopeful.

Saw it this morning. Like Zen Hydra, some I like and some I don’t. I think like a lot of things out of Hollywood it will be ‘Duneish’ but not Dune. Impossible to be of course. Too much detail in the book that can’t be put into dialogue. If they tried to explain everything in spoken dialogue the movie would be hours and hours long. As far as language, I remember when ‘Rome’ came out on HBO, lots of people semprinied about all the actors having English accents. Better that than speaking Latin imo. But I know what Zen means, without the zensunni background explanation you lose a lot of what it’s about. Oh well, it’s pretty much “in the can” as they say, so whatcha gonna do. All us big fans of the books need to go read Rufus’ threads about managing expectations.

I even struggled with Peter Jackson's LotR films (I'm glad they never went through with that terrible plan to turn The Hobbit into a trilogy of movies). However these Dune films turn out, I'll always have the novels. All four of them.

Well, about accents in movies set in ancient times... You have to give a compromise for the language not being authentic, otherwise the audience won't understand anything at all. However, with the "managing expectations" and the movie/storyteller needing to make a "believable world", accents are very important and set the scene every bit as much as costumes and props. An ancient story set in Italy needs to have actors with Italian accents to create a believable construct for the audience, since the audience will hear that modern accent and identify it with Italy (or whatever country, et al).
Likewise, actors playing Germans in WWII era should have German accented English for believably purposes, even though we know they didn't speak to each other in English. It's a small, but important detail that helps create the world in which the story takes place.
As far as Dune is concerned, I have a feeling it will be a overdone CGI org fest with little focus on telling something resembling a story (like they did with Troy and 300). Apparently modern audiences just want to be stimulated by lights and colors and don't actually want to be challenged to think or feel anymore.
I hope I will be proven wrong, but the odds are in my favor.

I hope I will be proven wrong, but the odds are in my favor. It seems that very little overt CG is being used. They filmed on real sets, in locations like Jordan, and many of the effects are purported to be practical. Timothée Chalamet (the actor playing Paul) claims to have only filmed two scenes in front of a green screen.

Yeah, I’m going to pay $240.00 for a knife that is in secret production and no one has seen. Riiiight.
