I'm proud to offer nugui specially formulated for modern swords. This nugui is suitable for modern folded and mono steels. It is also suitable for tamahagane. This is suitable for keisho polish, as well as sashikomi or even "hybrid" polish. It can be thinned depending on application. I have been making my own nugui for a long time, and no I won't tell you the exact make up of it. I will say there is nothing acidic or toxic to my knowledge in it. 1 bottle is enough for multiple swords. Forum member discount price is 30 a bottle http://instagram.com/p/CEcMUZGJvuN

I am very knowledgeable in polishing can this be applied to a polished blade to bring out the hamon? It's the same as I use to finish my polishes. It doesn't really bring out the hamon, it darkens the ji. Without knowing the type of polish on the blade, and if the blade is already polished, I'd say it really wouldn't be worth the effort

Steve or Stephen (tbh I can't quite remember) Seeing, as I made it, and there is some kanahada, jitekko, aoko, and some akako, in various amounts a base of light mineral oil... There's no etchants in it. No cinnabar (shinsha from nami kawa) or other mercury bases which can and are often used in nugui

Only thing I know about nugui is that when I bought 40micron iron oxide powder and mixed it with light mineral oil, applied lightly with a cotton ball, I got micro scratches. So I conclude anyway, 40micron powder is too coarse.

I went ahead and grabbed some on ebay earlier today. I have been trying to learn more about and experiment with polishing techniques and materials and coincidentally was just looking for some nugui the other day that I didn't have to order internationally for. Can't promise I'll be in a position to provide much useful feedback, but looking forward to trying it out.

So I conclude anyway, 40micron powder is too coarse. RinC 40 micron would be around 400-410 grit. You would need 1 micron to get a 14,000 grit. As a guide 1 micron/14000 grit leaves a very good polish on most stones, I have a 14,000 diamond wheel that leaves a mirror finish on anything I polish, including steel, after 3,000.

You have to powder any solid you put in nugui. If you don't have a geological ruby mortar-and-pestle, grind a pinch between two clean sintered-ruby oilstones until it's fine enough.

"You have to powder any solid you put in nugui. If you don't have a geological ruby mortar-and-pestle, grind a pinch between two clean sintered-ruby oilstones until it's fine enough." =========================== Alas, no...but that must be why I got the faint scratches...40 microns too course.
How about if I rub it between my palms? Superman made diamonds that way from coal...(which is why no one let him refill the coal bucket after that...the jerk says, "Look at what I made." and everyone complained about the cold because the stove went out.)
