I was thinking about Ricky Arias. You know, when he was not getting himself in trouble, his posts were pretty interesting. He posted his thoughts about swords and swordsman(woman? person?)ship in a well said, interesting manner. He added life and interest. I have never met him, but his posts were interesting and informative enough that I made it a point to read them.
Who of the "no longer here" do you wish were still here? Why?

In one word: NO. Longer explanation: Ricky had nothing useful to add to any conversation, and was arrogant beyond belief. I don’t miss him at all, and can’t believe anyone wants him back. His “knowledge” about swords was not really that good, and his condescending manner in which he attacked anyone who dares question him, plus the fact that he lied about his martial arts background AND attacked others who tried to help him out over the years proves he does not belong in this group.
I’ll leave it at that and again say, no I don’t miss Ricky at all.

I do miss people that give out their honest opinions based on facts and not some market hype about constantly trying to improve their quality. Honest truth hurts but a lot of people are becoming too emotional involve in their production swords.

I miss Driggers. I am craving to own a kopis made by him. I know he has had a rough year, but I miss seeing his work. I really think he's one of the best out there.

I'm very confused then. I see countless threads on the katana, or related to the katana. I don't see many threads related to the kopis, shashka, yataghan, tulwar, or xiphos, which are all swords I am interested in. There are some times when I look at the most recent posts and more than half of them are related to the katana.

So many of the Old Guard are gone, at least two of which have passed on from this mortal realm.
I miss a dozen or so folks from when I was new, but they all just kinda faded out at some point.
Edit: Just realized this was in the Japanese Swords subforum. Weird place for it, unless you're asking specifically about katana folk? Marc Ridgeway is the reason I joined this forum, but if I recall, his departure was not on very good terms...

Honest true hurts but a lot of people are becoming too emotional involve in their production swords. True. But most all the people that have lots of experience and knowledge of production katana are on the Kompletely Katana group on Facebook, so it's just a different platform and new buyers can get good info from experienced people there. This is still a fun place to come and see reviews and discussions though. lol

An old boomer like me can’t deal with that .

My fault. Apologies. Everyone is welcome to comment on this topic. I should have put it in the general section. (I respect all sword and weapon types and have interest in European swords too, but for time and money reasons, I have stayed in the Japanese swords sub-group. Fine by me to move this into the general discussion section. RinC p.s. LG, that was kind of an ambivalent answer....but examining your comment closely, I detect faint indicators that you were not Ricky Arias's biggest fan (perhaps his 2nd or 3rd biggest fin?) :-)
I avoid FaceBook. It is a data mining operation. What is the old saying, if at the card table you can't tell who the 'mark' is, it's you. I have read of folks who had trouble gaining employment, being accepted into colleges due to scrutiny of their FaceBook account.
Many benefits to Facebook, but hidden costs to be aware of.

Maybe I could post underwater videos of reviews and tests from my swimming pool? Might be a bit thin content wise, but it would be interesting.... But seriously, do you have any specific ideas in mind?

Well, we could have someone who posts now and then and is opinionated on a narrow topic, is screaming ignorant on many others, irritating to many, convinced that only he and no other, is the repository of all wisdom and truth, and....oh, wait, I'm already here.

Ok, outside the katanaverse I miss Venusasaboy/"Trap"/1 mio. other names and avatars/ifrit. A bit crazy, quicksilver and I always hoped he turned the corner. But I liked his approach to blades and armor and was fun to talk with.

RinC Interesting..... the first step in enlightenment is admitting that you have the problem afterwards comes truth seeking.
