Will anyone at all read this review? I don't know, but I feel obliged to write it given that this product is likely presumed to be junk, but is in fact not junk.
BUDK as we know sells mostly wall-hangers and a few functional pieces from United Cutlery and similar companies. This is an item seemingly made just for them- it is part of the 'Forged Warrior' line of minimalist and very inexpensive pieces crafted from what I presume to be surplus leaf springs. It is clearly a knock-off of the Zombie Tools Spit II.
Is this a high quality, properly crafted weapon?- not really....but it is a serviceable and interesting item that can be used for its intended purpose and is quite inexpensive? yes.
The spear is constructed of three layers of steel likely plasma cut from leaf springs- heavy and solid. The blade tang stretches the length of the piece. The blade itself is a kind of americanized tanto shape and is not badly done. They have attempted a geometric yokote-type thing which was done relatively successfully. The piece is moderately sharp though it certainly would need to be touched up for legitimate cutting; the last 5 inches or so were not sharpened as successfully as the rest. The blade is definitely hardened, and the edge as a great deal of niku (possibly too much), but that does make for a durable cutter. There tip is not symmetrical when looking down the spine of the blade, which is forgivable given the price. The entire piece is tightly and competently wrapped in synthetic leather and there seems to be a bolt a few inches down from the guard to handle transition holding things together. I do not know how the blade tang is affixed to the handle scales down the length of the blade.
At only 42" it is way too short to be an effective primary spear, and at around 6 pounds it is too heavy to effectively be used as a one-handed spear accompanied by a shield. It is however constructed appropriately- it is not junk- and could be used for its intended purpose; though I do not know for sure about the long-term durability...I am guessing it would hold up.
