I simply challenge all of you to a simple form of combat. This form of combat will abide by certain rules. What are the rules, you may ask? Well, the rules are simply that one participates on a sword forum with contributions regarding swords, swordsmanship, and perhaps related hobbies.
What this challenge prohibits is any and all posting of information that has nothing to do with swords.
No news articles.
No Wu-Flu drama.
No more political b.s.
Just get back to discussing what this forum is about. I've been keeping tabs the last couple months and finally feel the need to speak my mind. Some of what I've seen on the covid-19 thread is downright internet comedy, and I commend certain individuals for their dry contributions to the subject.
That being said, my friend @edelweiss has carried the dry far beyond I tastefully could without spoofing.
I just wish that when I login to this site there was consistent output other than the tepid drama on the covid-19 thread. So please, as my buddy The Levin Lance said, just STOP ALREADY
or rather, MOK or admin , could there please be a new policy about NO POSTS ABOUT ANYTHING NOT RELATING TO SWORDS? Would solve a lot of problems...I think.

Sorry but I would counter that the cafe is meant for non-sword off topic discussions. The problems arise when some pretty simple guidelines are trashed and ignored. I am no saint and will forever be the Perturbed Perturbateur. As such, it is too easy for me to poke people and incite riot.
Genteel discussions not centered on politics and angst are where it could be at and the few threads I start in the cafe might be examples.
Whatever
I am generally at SBG to discuss swords but the cafe is meant for the coffee clutch gabby stuff. That reminds me that my bladder is full and I need to go brush my teeth and grind some Kona.
Cheers GC

I'm fairly sure this is a well meaning post but it's pretty detracting to call for no politics while referring to COVID19 as "wu-flu." Just an observation.

I promise that the only politics I will engage in is to say that politicians are like diapers; both should be changed often and for the same reasons.
The cafe is for "off topic" discussions specifically. We should use this area to talk about non-sword related items. Like our other hobbies and interests. I feel this is important to get to know each other in a more well rounded way. We share many interests outside of the sword realm, such as model building, music, fast cars, etc. I see no problems discussing these items in this area. I feel it adds to the sense of community when we get to know each other in a broader context.
I do agree that those "off topics" should NOT be discussed in the general forum areas, those should be only for sword related things. The cafe exists for off-topics, so let's keep such discussions in their proper home.
I also agree that discussions on politics, religion, and nationalism, social activism, etc. should be taken elsewhere. I will be more than happy to talk about my beliefs in all of those areas with anybody who wants to take the time to do so, but you can send me a private email and we can have those discussions away from SBG completely. This forum should be a place to go to get away from those things. I don't want politics in my sports, nor do I want it in my hobbies.
And thus ends my soapbox rant.

If one doesn’t want to see non-sword related topics then stay away from the cafe as this is its purpose. That person will be happier and the poster satisfied. Two birds killed with one stone. What could be simpler? I say, what could be simpler?
That is one beautiful sword Rick.

I'm totally on board with no more political bull semprini, but - Sorry but I would counter that the cafe is meant for non-sword off topic discussions. ...yeah, that. And also, just as a side note - I'm fairly sure this is a well meaning post but it's pretty detracting to call for no politics while referring to COVID19 as "wu-flu." Just an observation. ...yeah, that, too. Gah! Stop stealing my lines, people!

I get carried away easily Horologist? Somewhat but more of a monkey wrench in terms of watchmaking. I scooped up a lot of 1950s incabloc 17j for a few years and I have a passion for older Seiko watches. I tend to wear just one though and it is in the top row between the huge dial Citizen eco drive and the small gold Seiko 66. That primary watch is a 1968 Sealion case that has gone through a few changes from its original M88 6106 movement to currently a 1969 6119 movement. Now on a mesh strap. I honestly prefer the lighter and moderately sized wristwatches. It is an old photo and more have come in since. Last in an Orient world timer. For the longest time I was wearing a corroded small late 1950s Westclox bumper automatic that loses 5 minutes a day. I love that thing. I also used fool around with musical alarm clocks from that 1950s-1960s period. I have a large box filled with them I have not recently unpacked. I have a hankering to get back to model trains and steam models but there just isn't space set up for them. Maybe a Z scale briefcase Too many hobbies Cheers GC

My daily watch is an old Seiko. I recently got my first Vostok. We should start a watch thread. I have waaay too many watches. Just like swords, knives, jackets, guns and guitars.

It's great to see other watch enthusiasts here. I used to have a small collection of vintage LeCoultre and Universal Geneve Polerouter's but felt overwhelmed and decided to sell them off to focus on the vintage Omega Pie-pan Constellations and vintage Rolex Sub's and GMT's. My current daily wear watches are an Omega Seamaster Professional 2254.50 and a vintage Rolex 14k/SS Date-just that used to belong to my father ;
