Stickjoicks are to swords what airsoft is to real assault weapons. Clearly you've never seen or done SCA fighting. It can be a brutal beatdown with a club. Gawds help you if they hit where you didn't armor. My favorite rule... 'If it makes you scream, take it, even if it wasn't good.' Imagine getting hit in the armpit by a baseball bat. Are you old enough to remember "carpet armor" and "freon-can helmets"? I'm one of those who used them. Those were the days of high chivalry!
Given the historical importance of SCA to the swords and armor business, widespread unfamiliarity with it on a dedicated reproduction sword site is as surprising, to say the least, as someone not being aware of JSA, HEMA, Roman reenacting or English Civil War reenacting would be.

BTW, to return closer to the thread subject, IMHO, what's going on in Portland has left the limits of protest, and become a local rebellion against the Union, as much as the Confederacy ever was. Politics be damned, send in the Army and deal with it.

Before joining this site I had never heard of SCA or HEMA. Just watched a YouTube video linked by someone here yesterday. Was surprised to hear HEMA pronounced ‘heema’. Thought it would be pronounced’ ‘hima’. Also not a big history buff like some on here. Probably a reason I’m not into euros, sabers and renaissance swords much. My interest was in mostly japanese weapons. Have learned a LOT from this site (and others) about many types of swords, weapons and even some history. It definitely has expanded my knowledge.

The federals are in Portland and the Portland authorities are complaining about the feds being there. Protesting but through legal channels. They want them out. Crazy.

Protesting but through legal channels. They want them out. Crazy. No doubt nothing wrong with protesting though legal channels, though on what after over two months straight I have no idea. All the feds have been doing is trying to keep the Federal building from being destroyed, so why some view that as "storm troopers" is puzzling, particularly when blaming them for mayhem done to city before their recent arrival.

Protesting but through legal channels. They want them out. Crazy. A case could be made that an exception to Section 1385 of Title 18, United States Code (USC) as provided in Chapter 13 of Title 10 (specifically 10 USC Section 252), currently exists in Portland. The President could issue the proclamation required in Section 254, ordering the insurgents to disperse. If it's ignored, use of military force to restore order is perfectly legal. The mess in Portland is different in nature from the riots that have occurred elsewhere, and constitutes an open flouting of Federal authority.

So... After looking at more pics of the dood in the sugarloaf...it's a crap 40.00 Indian costume helm, and his shield is unmarked. This tells me this is a foam sword LARP guy who is about to have his day ruined, and his helmet padding trashed.
I don't know what to say...one side says, 'yeah, armor up for the protest', the other side of me says...yup, this will encourage extra beatings and love from the officers.
But I digress, he means well, but didn't think it thru.

OH...and carpet armor and freon helms...*guilty* My torso armor was red shag, and body hits would blow strings of red out the armpit holes. God I miss armor with special effects...
