Hi guys, First time poster here. I recently bought a tori elite from a member on this forum and upon receiving it i noticed there is a crack in the saya. (picture attached) Is this something I can fix myself? Should I be worried about it long term? Additionally, this was not disclosed prior to the sale. What reasonable action should I take (if any)? Any input is highly appreciated. Regards, Ian

I would first notify the seller and see if something couldn't be worked to a mutual satisfaction.

If you're asking about what I think I'm seeing, I wouldn't be terribly concerned about it, myself. I came into this thread expecting the very-common split seam or stress crack along the length of the saya, usually starting at the koiguchi but not always.
If it bugs you, take the sword out, put it somewhere safe, and see if you can drizzle some glue in there. Let it cure for a day or two before putting the sword back in.
As far as the seller, there are three possibilities. I'll list them by greatest innocence:
1) There was no crack when the sword shipped out and something happened in transit where, presumably, something caused enough pressure on that spot to crack the saya through whatever packaging the seller used.
2) The crack was present before shipping but the seller simply had not noticed or was otherwise unaware.
3) The seller was aware of the crack but didn't find issue with it, structurally, and perhaps neglected to mention its potential aesthetic drawback.
Either way, not really a big deal in my own mind. I have saya with worse damage, myself.

It looks to me that is the lacquer cracked and that is fairly superficial.

Meh, as treeslicer suggests, reapply lacquer, buff, keep an eye on the area. Doesn't look more than cosmetic in your pic.

Was the sageo tied over it so it may not have been noticed?
