A forum member wanted to know the progress of Odie and rather than use that original thread to post the totally different info I’ve started a new thread. Odie has 15 years and had developed two lumps on his abdomen that I had surgically removed Monday, this is Tuesday afternoon. The operation went well and I picked him up that afternoon. I had carried a box as I figured he might need assistance getting home. He must have been loaded with pain killers as he was quiet lively. Rather hard to control would be better fitting. He had a good appetite and preferred his bed at first when not roaming around. But during the night he woke me wanting the main bed that he considers his. At that time he wasn’t able to put his paws up that far and fearing he would injure himself when nature called I refused and eventually he got the message and returned to his bed.
He slept late this morning but has remained active between bouts with his bed. I ground up his medicines using my trusty bowie as usual and fed by using milk heavily laced with condensed milk, something he loves. He didn’t take to the antiseptic well for the incision which came in spray form. It took two of us to apply it. I don’t think it hurt but scared him. I removed the bandage late morning. Odie will no doubt ask for his place in the main bed tonight which I will reluctantly refuse, maybe tomorrow night, maybe. He appears to be doing fine and we have a follow up appointment Monday.

Thanks all. Odie wanted the main bed last night and as he was acting much better I broke down and gave him a boost. He laid on the covers until I retired then crawled under. I figured he would wake me during the night and that I would help him down. He got down without waking me but must have had second thoughts about returning as he used his bed the remainder of the night. This morning he was frisky and eating well. He has one more pill to go which is given 1 hour after the first and the antiseptic which I'll need help with.

It’s been a week since Odie’s operation and we had a follow up today. During the week Odie has taken his internal medicine with no problems. The problem is more with the meds themselves, he takes a ½ tab of each twice a day. The half that I cut off for the night absorbs much humidity and is hard to work with. I’ve been crushing the tabs up and putting in milk laced with condensed milk, something that he loves. The only medicine issue came with the spray antiseptic which scared the hell him causing him to injury his right front leg on one occasion and limped around for the reminder of the day. I replaced that with cream antiseptic which was initially hard to apply but he’s gotten to accept that, doesn’t like it but accepts it finally. At first there was a hassle. I think that he licked most of that off because the doc expressed multiple times the importance of applying it. He also managed to break some stitching probably by licking allowing the wound to open some. I have not seen him doing so but the evidence is there. The doc didn’t think another stitch would do nor a butterfly appropriate. Setting here I realized why, the area has been open too long, dumb me I wasn’t thinking. At any rate Odie earned himself a plastic neck funnel for his efforts. He’s still adjusting but hasn’t learned to judge distance correctly yet and continues to bang it into whatever. Now the cream should remain in place and work. We have another appointment next week.

Glad he’s doing well. Keep us posted pgandy.

I had assumed that he could drink his water, he was able to eat and drink his milk/meds. However the size of his water bowl and cone clashed. I put down the bowl he had as a pup and that worked.

Yes our little tomcatter here licked and bit his castration wound open some month or so ago and earned a cone collar too; but that was a flexible one just to stop him getting at his balls! He did quite well with it, but the our big Loki was scared to death from the little one... since then the harmony is gone... :-(
