Hi everyone. I’m new to sword buying and it is a bit overwhelming. I am purchasing this as a gift but also want to make sure I buy something that is functional (not necessarily to sword fight, more like cutting things with a swing). I read some posts on here about some of the cheaper materials vendors use. I was hoping for some recommendations of good vendors with quality samurai swords. I’m okay with it being a bit more expensive if the material and sword is worth it. Any advice or warnings you could give me about sword buying would be very helpful. Thank you!!

I'll second both Hanwei (sword maker) and Kult of Athena (sword seller). Here's the page with Hanwei's Japanese swords: www.kultofathena.com/hanwei-japanese-price.aspConveniently enough, Matthew Jensen (a member here who might chime in at any time) made a great video with recommendations for exactly the question you have. If you do a search on his channel, he's probably the most prolific reviewer of Japanese style swords I've ever found on the internet. He also has reviews of European and other swords but the Japanese stuff is what he's most interested in and most knowledgeable. Good luck! Alex

"I was hoping for some recommendations of good vendors with quality samurai swords."
Welcome aboard.
If you read through some of the threads in this section and the Japanese section, you'll get an idea of what's hot and what's not. There are a couple of threads above this section specifically for katana.
Cheers GC
