It is hard to be specific without examining the sword but as a start that won’t damage the metal use WD-40 w/#000 steel wool. A more aggressive approach would be sandpaper w/oil. The coarseness of the paper would depend on how much you wish to remove and how fast. If you use sand paper might try that with a sanding block when working on the blade flats. As the rust is removed go to finer and finer papers. I’d go with the steel wool and oil as a starter as that won’t mess up anything.

Oh, that rust is far too deep. The best route is to let me dispose of that for you properly. 😉
