I finally settled on a Lockwood broadleaf sword with some alterations and a matching dagger.

Like the others, I really am curious as to how You define "battle ready". If I was going into battle, and I needed a weapon sufficiently capable of dealing with sword wielding threats, I would grab a gun lol! XD I have a few different swords that are all "battle ready", and they're all under $300. They would all hold their own in a fight against a sword of the same style but in a far higher price range. I would guess the main differences would be that the expensive one would have better handling characteristics and balance and better fit and finish, and the cheaper one would actually get played with and used for cutting stuff..
That sword you settled on looks pretty sweet though. I don't think I could spend that much money on a sword (although I do have plans for a custom rapier in the near future). Not a big fan of the guard (or lack thereof), but the grip and especially blade profile look really cool. I hope it's everything you want out of a 2 grand sword.
