Agree, that's awesome. Ive been wanting to get a group( actual several different Middle Earth themed Units) together for many years now, haven't made much progress yet though. They look well done. We definitely need more folks making this kind of thing 'Happen' out there. THanks for sharing, Brother Nathaniel!!

They have a community online. www.middleearthrangers.org/forum/I ran across them years ago looking for info on bows. They have occasional middle-earth themed meet-ups which I think would be quite fun assuming there is a lot of red meat off the bone and malt beer. While in quarantine my family watched all 6 hobbit and LOTR movies. Unfortunately our local renfest schedule for June has been canceled.

Has Brother Nathaniel deleted his posts and account? Saw this and some other threads I was going to look at when I got time(now) and they’re gone.

I'm reserving my comments because I'm too busy laughing. Is that anime in your avatar? jk No, it's an Edo period Japanese print photoshopped to show Dilbert in full samurai combat gear with the head of the Pointy-Haired Boss at his feet. Hurray for engineers! Banzai!!

Lol what didn't you care for with the LOTR larpers? If you read it carefully, I didn't express disapproval. I felt like posting something to show Bro. Nat that I'd read his thread, but without getting seriously dragged into the discussion.
I don't consider all cosplay to be lame. For instance, Slave Leia contests are fun to judge.

Sent the link to the ranger forum to some buddies for laugh. Then one asked where I came across it and had to explain this secret sword life I've been living. Somehow wasn't able to conceal the fact that I'm a nerd from them..

This particular forum : www.middleearthrangers.org/forum/index.php isn't about shooting at each other with dummy arrows or striking each other with latex swords. It is primarily a forum to not only discuss the writings of Tolkien but to learn how things were done where there are correlations to history and experiment where no direct correlations exist. Clothing, weapons and the rest of hard and soft kits are discussed, experimentally designed and in many cases tested in the field. Just like in any R&D if there is a fail or someone comes up with a different but probable way of doing something it also will be put to the test. Most of the regulars have learned a good many early survival/weapon skills. Several make knives, several have made scabbards and at least one still does some sword work (making and customization). A good many started here and on SFI. Fire starting, skinning, tracking, food prep primitive hunting, foraging just to name a few. If you have any interest in Tolkien or primitive living skills, I highly recommend it. They are a great group of people and very willing to share.

Just to be clear I didnt mean LARPing in a derogatory way. I have been to a few Cowboy Action Shoots in the past and I train at HEMA clubs with people that sometimes wear armour or period clothing.

Oh I did look at it. As did my buddy I know is a huge LOTR fan. We both texted each other pictures of our editions of the triology next to the Silmarillion and The Hobbit. I also wish that Tolkien was still taught widely, as not only is his work interesting linguistically and as literature, but it's one of the best mythic reconstructions of the human experience that has ever been written. That said, the dude dressed as a ranger in the woods with his lap dog on a leash is absolutely hilarious and absurd. We can laugh at ourselves from time to time .

there should def. be more serious endeavors into this kind of Semi-LARp, Semi-Reenacting though- i know there have to be more already formed groups alliances out there--mush positive potential there...!

Anything that brings people into swords and historical martial arts is a good thing.
