Since the Museum Collection Glamdring swords are long gone, I have considered getting a replica made. Thing is, it is quite an ornate hilt. It would be easier to use a pre-existing hilt from a display sword.
United Cutlery (the old ones at least) and Noble collection both use zinc alloy for their hilts. They look pretty and would be fine for display, but would damage or break easily.
Silver plated brass, or even steel is preferable, but the knockoff replicas I have seen are usually way off.
Has anyone seen a decent Glamdring knockoff that might have a suitable pommel and crossguard?

Why would a cheap wallhanger have a hilt material which is usually seen in more highendish swords?

I have a cheap Glamdring I picked up at a Renaissance faire a while back. One of those purchases where the next day you're thinking, "Why did I do that?". I took the hilt apart to see what it looked like, and the thing was just epoxied together. I actually twisted the tang of the sword unscrewing the pommel.
I'm not sure of the material, but I would guess the cross and pommel are stainless steel. I can take some pictures and post a link it you're interested.

Unfortunately that's the United Cutlery version. MRL distributed the UC LOTR swords. So it's zinc-alloy. From what I gather, if you want accuracy, the UC version is the way to go... I have yet to see a decent knock-off that gets the hilt parts correct. Maybe you'll have to go custom? That being said - the UC swords aren't that bad. In fact, here's a video of Adam Savage going to Weta for a one day build. Peter Lyon helps him build his own Strider sword lol. The kicker - they use the UC hilt (ran out of time). But it's interesting to see Peter's opinions on the UC swords lol.

There was a copy of Boromir's sword called "The Mercenary" a Ranger's sword complete with by knife for Aragorn and a Wizards sword. Do a search and they'll pop up.

Oh my apologies - I was referring to the link you posted. That one was the UC version. Oh man, I know the Mercenary and Ranger swords lol - still on the lookout to add them to my collection However, I cannot recall the Wizard's sword. All my searches only show the cheap stainless steel ones. If anyone comes across a picture, i'd love to see what it looked like. (and probably also add it to my wish list...lol)

Interestingly, some replicas have the runes sticking out rather than engraved, which looks kind of cool, but I would obviously prefer the engraved looking runes.

I'm only going to be displaying the sword, not cutting with it, so I may go that route in the end.

Thanks for the pictures. The raised lettering doesn't look too bad, but over a pound for just the crossguard? Might be a bit too heavy.

No worries man. They're sitting in a cabinet and not going anywhere. If you want them just shoot me a PM. It's cool either way.

Just putting it out there. The MC Glamdring hilt is the wallhanger hilt as well. Just more distress and weathered. Still ZP5 Alloy though.

If I had the money I would get all the LOTR replica swords and weapons and mount them on a wall....or two walls if they wouldn't fit on one. I didn't start watching the movies until the fourth one came out and never even read the books until 2 years ago but I am now hooked for life. Best series of movies ever.

The Darksword Armory Sage is a loose copy of the Glamdring. The hilt looks right but the pommel is not as long. I know they will sell the fittings, but you have to ask as they do not list sword parts. As for the display/wall hanger versions, most if not all will be cast Zamak alloy.

The newest Atlantian has my specs and was initially my custom btw. Was able to get the weight down a whole lot. Mine was the very first prototype of the new rendition. I have heard since then that they were able to get it even lighter. Nice always contemplated getting one of these definitely like your rendition the best of the ones they've offered, how much weight were they able to shave off yours?

So the one I have which is the first prototype with my specs came out to 5 lb 5 oz . It ends up being about a half lb lighter then their(Ryan sword) normal rendition, Which is still about 1lb lighter then the windlass rendition, Which is 1lb lighter still then the Albion Version lol Nice by the next three renditions we'll have one down to 3lbs lol!

Nice by the next three renditions we'll have one down to 3lbs lol! Still, I must say, I think you would really like it. The fit and finish is very good, out of box sharpness was hair-popping . Feels solid as a rock. I didn't know they intended to make it a normal purchasable item. Yea I've been itching to get one for years as I'm quite the Conan fan in general, have a huge collection of the Marvel Comics 70s-90s run. My top three "like to own" functional fantasy swords would be a Atlantian, Master Sword and Power Sword from He-Man.

Yeah it's made of 1095 tempered to be rather rigid. It's pretty light for its size, but somewhat blade heavy due to the hilt fitting made of zinc alloy =( The wooden grip is also constructed in Chinese sword's two-pin style and it's grotesquely thick. Still, it cuts and thrusts rather well.
