Has anyone had sword sharpening (or honing actually) with the Block Sharpener? theblocksharpener.com/. His youtube demos are pretty impressive. Thanks for any feedback.

I don’t have that brand but another called the Hunter Honer. Bought it years ago for sharpening knives. Works ok but I wouldn’t use on my swords. A lot of people on here use the Ken Orion Worksharp I believe it’s called.

I have a Ken Onion Work Sharp and love it. Prior to that I used mainly used sand paper and still do in some cases. The Block sharpener, and I’ve used a similar one somewhere but can’t remember the details worked to freshen up a V edge on a knife without any real damage. I prefer a convex edge which is not in the capabilities of the Block and I strongly suspect that if you really wanted to do any more than just to freshener up a V edge, that is where you would want to remove metal to say repair a damage or to reshape the Block want be up to the job. Just my 2¢.

I'm also kinda leery of the Block sharpener's design - it looks like you're liable to cut the hand holding the sharpener, especially with larger blades.

I've used it a number of times on a large number of blades. Works well for honing, but cannot create an edge. Also only works on blades with secondary bevels.
