I have a buddy 3D’ing my sword in mind. Spoiler: it’s the sword of Achilles in Troy. Hey all, new member here! So ive been a collector of firearms all the way from muskets to WW2, but ive recently taken a liking to swords. I found a nice 3D of a sword i like (Spoiler: Its the sword of Achilles from Troy, 2004). Everything looks pretty straight forward. I will be looking for a good sized crucible today, maybe 2KG? I will be building the cope and drag in a bit...and the furnace once I get the crucible. Their are alot of tutorials for this on youtube so i dont really need any specific instructions (outside of tips), but my main reason for commenting is i dont know what to do once the blade is cast. Are these quenched, tempered, hardened, etc? Im guessing its a time sensitive situation once the blade is made, so i need a plan. Outside of the grinding, polishing, etc...how do i make this blade as strong as it can be? For simplicity sake i will be casting the handle as one piece with the blade. From my understanding, that is pretty common back in the bronze age. Is this the easy, non proper way of going about it in terms of weight distribution and balance? If so, how would you guys make this particular handle? Anyways, im really excited for this project. Im sure it will take time to get good at this, but thats the fun! Attachments:

You might take a look at this site. He has some practical observations about how it's done, you don't just cast it and file it. They have to be forged some, and work hardened.
BTW, the real Achilles probably either carried a Mycenaean Type G or a Naue II.

Thx. That’s why I haven’t casted yet. I am unaware of the process and steps to make it an actual blade. Tempering, anealing, work hardening, quenching, all these terms used differently for different alloys. I got no idea what steps to take😅

I would suggest something simpler like a small spearhead or knife to start off. If you need a 3D Model I can make one.
The material after the cast isn't very hard. You need to hammer it to make it harder at the edge.
EDIT: Spearhead with a tang

I already have the 3D. It’s definitely a challenging piece for my first Go!
