I am thinking of getting a good quality helmet made. Does anyone have any information or opinions about The Forge of Svan? The pictures of their products look nice but being from the Ukraine communication isn't the best. forgeofsvan.comAny other information about decent armor manufacturers would be helpful. I am looking for functional armor not decorative.

Functional... For what SCA? HEMA? I doubt I would use it for anything, I just want to be certain that it will fit and that it is built to be used, and that it is of good quality. I know these say they meet HMB Regulation and Requirements of HMBIA Authenticity Committee. I honestly don't know what that means.

I found someone from Winston OR to make what I want. I lived in that area for 13 years and didn't know they were there. www.firedryksteel.com/

I bought a gambeson from Forge of Svan years ago and I was happy with it. They were a reputable company.
You want to use one of their helmets for HMB or SCA? Based on their website yes you can do that. I would recommend 2mm heat treated or 14 gauge heat treated steel. That would be more than sufficient enough and they offer that as an option for their helmets, I checked. Always spend the extra money for heat treated. You see my profile photo? That's a Steel Mastery heat treated 14 gauge bascinet that I had custom ordered from them, cost me a $1000 and I do full armor combat as apart of the Adrian Empire and we also do yield combat demonstrations at our local Renfare. I've used cold rolled 14 gauge helms and they get wrecked in time. Also padding is key, use lots of padding.
