Hi all,
Just like the title says, I was wondering if a succesfully done 25 degree edge with the worksharp ken onion is actually too sharp and fragile for a european sword? Or is the result an appropriate sword edge with enough meat behind the edge?

You'll be fine. Edge fragility depends on what you want to cut. English officers are recorded as having sharpened their sabres to shaving sharpness before battle during the Indian conflicts.

25 degree each side? Far from too fragile.... maybe too obtuse. :P

I use the 25° setting for most swords as a general setting and have shaved with it. A more acute angle would cut better but I find 25° a good GP setting for my requirements. Each person has their pet setting and that’s the beauty of the Ken Onion version. For me 25° is robust not to require frequent sharpening saving my blade and my time and still do all of my back yard cutting. My advice is to experiment with the various angles and see what suites you. Sharpened my M1840 NCO last week at 25° and have had a few sessions since. Yesterday it was still capable of cleanly slicing through a litro milk container of card stock leaving the bottom on the cutting stand.
Edit: The 1.8 litro boxes are easier to cut as there is more mass to hold them in place.

There's a difference between acute (narrow edge angle) and sharp (fine grit polish). You don't want your sword edge to be too acute, sharp is fine.
25 degrees should be fine.

After finishing with the fine grit belt (X4) I use a leather belt w/red jeweller’s rouge although I have white. I use to use a worn out X4 belt w/rouge until it deteriorate further when the edges began to fray. That’s when I broke down and bought the leather belt.

Thanks for the replies- so than a worksharp 25 degree sharpening job is indeed appropriate.
