SO, since I am under lockdown now (voluntary and still healthy, don't worry), I have been playing the crap out of Fallout 3 on GOG. I got to thinking, what is your all time favorite post apocalyptic video game? It can be any genre or setting, even fantasy, as long as it is definitivly post apocalyptic. No fan theories please! For me, Fallout 3 is my favorite. it was my first serious open world game, and absolutely nailed the hellish Cormac McCarthy "The Road" vibe. It also still has my favorite video game sunrises, believe it or not. i.imgur.com/7WcBzcC.jpg

Fallout 4. It's the only one of the series I've played, but I love it.
Borderlands is fun too, in a different way.

Fallout 76 got a bad rap when it came out, but I’m playing it now and it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. The caveat is I started a year into the game and they worked out most of the bugs, I’m playing on PS4 and it does crash once in a while, But it was such an ambitious game what they tried to do I can see it happening and it’s just a minor annoyance.

Yes, the WHOLE Fallout franchise. I've done them all... But if I HAD to pick one, probably Fallout 4, and mods, because you can create ever changing weirdness... Borderlands can be fun. I wish there were a ongoing Cthulhu Invasion game...

The Dark Souls series certainly qualifies in my opinion, and I am an avid fan of all three games.

I forgot about this one, which I put almost a hundred hours into when it first came out. From an indie game studio out of Canada. www.thelongdark.com

Fallout New Vegas, heavily modded. (Want some jian to go with all the katana? I made a mod for that!) Apart from the end Fallout 3 is great, too, if you can get it running on your computer (and should likewise be heavily modded).
Fallout and Fallout 2 are, of course, classic. I would recommend using the unofficial patches and restored content mods for those, too. And in a very similar but more squad-based vein, Wasteland 2 is the justly celebrated modern sequel to the game that directly inspired Fallout.
The Dark Souls franchise is legendary for good reason.
Breath of the Wild. Best Legend of Zelda ever? Maybe! (Although I seriously wish there was a way to repair weapons so I could bring myself to actually use the really cool ones...)

My number 1 is always going to be The Last of Us. Fallout 3 is a firm favourite too, especially because I got my household and both parents hooked on it, and they racked up more hours than I ever did.
Also, Telltale Games The Walking Dead is a fantastic narrative adventure. Not much gameplay, but the story is gripping and the characters are great. Never finished season 2, so that's as far as I can say

I finished Breath of The Wild with a very large collection of ancient weapons I never used. What if I need them later 😬. Best Zelda ever. Great game to dissapeared into. Agree Fallout 1 and 2 are classics. I Should play those again sometime.

Hadn't considered Breath of the Wild a post-apocalyptic game, but looking back, it totally is. And yeah, the sequel definitely needs a way to repair weapons; I did the expensive-as-hell Hylian Homeowner sidequest just so I had a space for a couple of my favorite blades.

Fist of the North Star Ken's Rage 2
Technically it's a game based on a popular post apocalyptic manga series but still its a fun game and does a great job telling the tale of the series. I mean what isn't to love about FotNS? Its basically Road Warrior amped up to 11 with fantasy martial arts! Kenshiro is the protagonist is basically Mad Maxx, Bruce Lee and Goku merged into one lol!

Katmari Damacy. The king destroyed the cosmos, so you have to roll up all the junk on earth to remake all the stars. The theme song is disturbingly catchy, and you wish it wasn't. And the royal rainbow. Yeah, that's a pretty disturbing apocalypse.
Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI (3) & Xenoblade Chronicles fit the bill. I'd add those to the list.
For those who've yet to treat themselves to all the above, just enjoy them already. Especially since society is corona'd, a good story based rpg is a fun way to interleave all the swordplay.
