Low Tech Wins! During a recent level 3 Pistol course this Level II Kevlar panel was shot with 9mm SXT / 9mm Major ball and.40 Gold Dot, .45 Corbon, .44 magnum...all of which the panel completely defeated. However, the first thrust from a Roman Cavalry Gladius totally penetrated all layers. The sword was made from 5160 tool steel.

I imagine Arcane would still zip right through Kevlar has always been more regarded as slash proof than stab proof. Nice pics

I imagine Arcane would still zip right through Kevlar has always been more regarded as slash proof than stab proof. Nice pics Yup... It would be very slash proof and aramid kevlar's vulnerability to an ice-pick is well known. We did this class a couple years ago and someone brought out a compound hunting bow with a brand new broad-head hunting arrow and it did NOT penetrate. A number of those in the class were sure that the arrow WOULD penetrate and it did not, and last weekend, many thought the sword would not and it did. A number of the Law Enforcement officers in the class were a bit shocked.

I wonder how it would fare against the medieval armor piercing heads like the ones Tood's Stuff did the series on? I'd expect that to punch thru.

The vest defeated a target arrow point from the same compound bow...A cross bow would have been interesting to use but...I left my crossbow in my other pants that day.

Dunno, those square tips might surprise us. I know I was surprised at how easily it went thru mail and gambeson

Bullet proof (resistant) vests are designed to spread the force trauma over a large area. Any knife can slice through them unless they are reinforced with a plate or other material. It's the same concept in which a bullet will go through a tree or steel dumpster, but be stopped by a sandbag.

A sandbag will stop a bullet, but and arrow will slice right through. I expect the same results on the kevlar.

I was surprised to read that the very fine points on qama swords were designed for chain mail. They were small enough to enter but strong enough to not break. I imagine they would do well for modern vests like the gladius in this sample.
