I've recently taken an interest in Meyer. Still reading through Meyers book and about to pick up Michael Chidesters 'The Illistrated Meyer' study guide from Lulu.com.

This is listed as an off topic subforum. Whereas the other subforum is listed for discussions regarding swordsmanship. No offense intended but those looking for such might just be looking in the subforum dedicated for it. No big deal but you may be selling yourself short.

I guess its a mix for me. Started with fiore and soon branched off to early kdf, then started mixing in meyer and a wee bit of bolognese 2 hander.
It seems my style is primarily a mix of kdf and meyer, with fiore's grappling amd disarms at close range

Fair enough , no offense taken and thanks for the heads up.

The weapon looks a bit like a large longsword with parrying lugs, or a small greatsword. In style of usage, not actually dissimilar to how you'd use a sidesword in 2 hands! Have a look at this video

Me, after an overhead swing, I would have been cleaning up glass and plastic in the dark.

I also saw the moral of it as, so long as I don't need to dismount cavalry, the swept-hilt rapier is a lot less work.

I just do drills from anything I can learn. Most of my sparring practice came from kendo, and having some good ol stick fight sparring matches with friends. I never really got to take it past that

I am honestly at an impasse between Meyer and Traditional KDF. I mean Meyer is needed to fill in gaps with traditional KDF but the style is still different. It's a really a tough decision for me.

I've really grown to respect Meyer. In earlier years, KDF folks tended to view Meyer as a vestige of "true" or "martial" longsword. But after spending a decade trying to unpack the often inscrutable material in the early gloss and texts, Meyer is a revelation. Everything is clearly shown in 3D detail and you can actually start working with the material immediately.

Meyer really is like the Rosetta Stone of KDF, imo. There are just some thing s I like better about the older sources though.

I started with Meyer simply because it was the first style of HEMA longsword I found. I enjoy training in it, but I'm looking more and more into Fiore lately

I'm not well versed in Fiore's stuff, but from what I've seen he has a very practical focus on getting a kill quickly and safely. There's not a lot of lingering in the fight.
