Project Highlander Comes to a partial close.
The Sword itself is now complete minus drilling a pin hole.
I started on this blade on October 29th (My Birthday) because I realized after 7 years of making blades for people i still didn't own one of my own.
Highlander is what first got me into swords when I was about 7 years old so it only makes sense that this is the sword I decided to make for myself.
Texas Steel props offers several different screen accurate hilt sets from Highlander 1,2,3, and the Series.
I chose the H3 version because the scene from the movie where Connor has to go back to Scotland to reforge his sword as well as reconnect with himself really speaks to me on a deep level.
I made the blade using forging and stock removal out of 1095 high carbon steel. I clayed the blade up with some pointers from Rick Barrett and did my heat treat.
For the handle components I contacted Texas Steel props who are the best in the industry when it comes to Highlander. The pictures do not at all do their work justice, the wallhanger highlanders swords are often bulky slippery and cumbersome to grip, these ones from TSP are much thinner and ovular in shape and make for an extremely comfortable grip even though it's a fantasy design.
This is a very light very fast sword.
It should be a blast to cut with, which I intend to find out as soon as the weather gets nicer
The next step of the project will be a matching Saya which I decided to use Padauk wood for it's bright red/orange natural hue.
This sword is spoken for by ME so it won't be available for purchase, however I am able to team up with Texas Steel props to make a custom one for anyone interested. They offer hilt sets for Highlander 1,2,3, and the Duncan Version from the series.
Specs:
Blade Length: 28.75"
Blade Width: 1.25" at shoulder
Grip Length: 11"
Overall: 40.25"
Point of Balance: 4.75"
