Hi folks - buying my first shinken katana. I am torn between a Cold Steel Warrior Series O Katana and the Ronin Dojo Pro #9 O Katana. Both fit my size. Both are long and heavy. Would be getting tsuka rewrapped in silk on the Coldsteel. Ronin seems to be silk ito already. I have read and watched all the reviews. Guess it comes down to details of overall fit and finish. Appreciate any opinions on this dilemma. Thanks!!!

Cold steel never pays attention to detail in my opinion. I feel they focus more on functionality and forget about looks. (Something about cold steel katanas always look like they have a cutlass blade to me and are way to fat looking. Here is an example)

If you put a Ronin Dojo Pro over a PROPER CS Warrior or Dragonfly you seriously have strange judgement..

Semi-related question: do any of the production O-katanas out there have a full-length Bohi?

Not personally no but I do have stuff from ronin katana and like I said imo I think cold steel katanas look odd. When you can get a skyjiro or hanwei at that price then cold steel is outmatched in my opinion. This is just mine though and I have never liked any of cold steels products. Like I said I think they lack attention to detail.

Well i am of course no expert on katana; bt i have been told from other forum members that the bohi are very well, the blades are made by a very good chinese forge, the fittings are quite unique and very crisp, the grips are quite good with thick strong mekugi. I would say the description is fitting, no? Where is the lack of detail exactly? None of our Hanwei is as even and crisp; not at all.

I wish more makers would do that but I’m sure that would add cost. Also you know your responding to the post above is an exercise in futility don’t you? Hope you guys and your cat are doing well btw.

No clue about CS Katanas. If they are anything like their Euro swords, RK all day. RK has much better edge profiles than anyone else in their price ranges. The KoA/Cold Steel bevels quite noticeable compared to RK.
Necessary disclaimer, it's been a while since I've handled any Cold Steel that was bigger than a knife. Things change.

If you like them I respect that just let me have my opinion, that’s all I ask.

Thanx; cat is a little better, but not through yet. Unsure if she ever will. Going one step forward, two steps back... On the sword: yes, those blades are right away fabulous. Putting Ronin on top is a little bit laughable. I only say "silk wrap" - still hasnt changed in the "commercials". Plus: Uneven wrapping diamonds, shifting wrapping, loose fittings, on two of three swords bent tips, on sword with very ugly tip polish... etc. etc. The Euro are much better, but you can buy them all over the internet; at least most of the designs. You find them at "Kawashima Steel", "Geisha Blades", "Urs Velunt" here in Germany...

But you have proven very often by now that you are a master in that art. I can say i dont like VW because of their exhaust/emission scandal - i cannot say they build bad cars! I can say i dont like Greta Thunberg because she is a noisy brat for me - but i cant deny the climate catastrophy because of that! Recommending something to somebody else ore not recommending it because of personal likes/dislikes is meh. Especially if you only go by hearsay. We have had around 40 katana passing through here during the lat 10 years, and Hanwei had BY FAR the largest number of fails and lemons, for example. Thats gives our opinion a base. Might not be true for everybody else experience though. But recommending dont-know-where-they-come-from-at-all chinese blades over a well known source like Huanuo Forge (Dynasty Forge) in case of Cold Steel is dumb. Sorry.

Oh my gosh let me have my freaking opinion for god sakes! I think ronin is better and have experience with it. He asked for recommendations and I gave him one so would you leave me alone? Let him be the one to ignore it and stop trying to correct me. There are no facts like you wanna say that proves cold steel is any better. That’s the whole point of the hobby is liking your own brands. Both forges have their goods and bads but I’m sorry you can tell by the comments here it is mixed.

reptaronice1, you are of course allowed to express your opinions, but by the same token others are also allowed to express their disagreement. Dandelion, disagree all you want, but don't make it personal.
