When it comes to complex hilted swords later than 1600 German museums have an impressing amount of weirdo swords no one would believe. Usually ww all know rapiers and smallswords, but there are so many swords where you think wrong hilt on wrong blade.

You need to see the "Solingen sword" that is on display there and post some photos if you can/will. It is a superbly preserved Oakshott type XIi/XIV blade that has been copied ad nauseam in the modern sword world. The original and the Albion copy..

Yes! I saw it! It is in a case on display next to the reproduction. It is in absolutely fantastic condition for its age. I fully understand why it is so copied. I don't think I took a photo of it. There were a lot of swords in there. If there is any doubt, the Albion copy is 99.9% exact. I saw it right next to the original and I honestly thought it was real at first.

Great to see you could make it to Solingen! The Dussacks you photographed are in my favorite room of the museum.

Happily I have two Albion Soligen's It's an amazing sword to handle. I really enjoy owning exact recreations to get the same feel that a medieval knight/man at arms had.

Nice! If you get to Berlin, the Deutsches Historisches Museum has a very nice array of swords and armor from medieval to modern.

Great pictures! The folding cutlasses/swords were a fairly late trend and usually much plainer. That would be the pimp daddy model. Belgium and France origin. Spring open, these are switchblades. An old thread. www.swordforum.com/vb4/showthread.php?81582-Folding-SwordsI am envious of the racks of felddegen, even to just see them in person. I have one but could easily adopt a roomful. Cheers GC
