I saw this on a few swords so assuming it isn’t a big deal but the blade on my katana doesn’t sit perfectly in the slot of narrow front slot of the habaki it is a bit to the left. Here is an example if you can see it.

It’s typical of a production sword. The habaki isn’t custom made for that particular blade but rather fits a wide range of blades.

They aren't made like or really look like a Japanese habaki, either, but if you take one off and fit it, they work all right.

custom made habaki's (made to fit that exact blade) are available on high end sword$$$. for mid range swords, they use factory habaki's (mass produced in a variety of sizes) and then try to use the habaki that fits the best. Better outfits try to standardize the nakago to be a tiny bit oversized so just some filing down on the nakago will make the pre-made habaki a good fit. I have been urging Jkoo to go the route of a standardized nakago,if possible.
It's a bit like buying shoes. Say I wear a 12 1/2 shoe size, it is hard to find a factory made (pre-made) pair of shoes that is a perfect fit.

When they're slightly oversized, sparingly apply silver solder to the inside, and then file it to fit. And don't forget the rear surface, it affects tsuba fit.

I'm not opposed to cheap swords...they have a place too. I personally don't own any lower end swords. Just don't expect them to be anything but what they are..

I would not be concerned. Its cosmetic and it doesn't affect the function of the sword. If you want perfect, then dig deeper into your pocket.
Not trying to be rude, but there is only so much finish work a manufacturer can do and still produce a functional product at a reasonable price point.
If it continues to bother you, then send me the sword right away and I will dispose of it for you.

Just throw it in a vice clamp and tighten down, then refit onto the blade.

Just throw it in a vice clamp and tighten down, then refit onto the blade. That's how they do it in china...

Just throw it in a vice clamp and tighten down, then refit onto the blade. Not worth it at this point, as long as it doesn’t effect performance I’m alright with it.

It’s always sad in a hobby when $120 buys the cheap end stuff XD A buck twenty is nothing if your hobby is collecting cars and motorcycles. Swords and knives are relatively cheap compared to other things. 120 on my jaguar gets you a center cap for one wheel or a set of new wiper blades.
