So, I've been talking with Jordan Williams and wanted to replicate his fish cutting test with my new sword to see how blades from 1000 years apart compare, but the problem is we cut down our trees years ago. SO basically, what would be a good inexpensive setup to hand a fish from to cut?

I would be concerned about hitting the clothes/fish rack with an errant swing. nerdthenordDo you have an exposed beam in a garage, or backyard awning that you can put a large eyebolt/screw eye in?

I absolutely love how this thread is about someone trying to figure out how to hang up a fish so they can cut it with a sword. Whatever else they may have done, at least my life choices have led me to this thread.

Use two Christmas tree stands (probably at a local thrift store cheap, I always find them there) a healthy distance apart.
At the top of a thick wooden pole set in each, an eyebolt.
Between the eyebolts, a horizontal heavy rope.
Hanging vertically from the center of the horizontal rope, a vertical rope from which the fish hangs.
With a fish (or any cut of meat that's not ridiculously large) it won't sag too much; and with good sharp and a clean cutting technique, the setup will be plenty sturdy.

It occurs to me that you're essentially looking for a gallows...

A volunteer to hold the fish. What could possibly go wrong?

It occurs to me that you're essentially looking for a gallows... Well, a simple one almost. Anyway, I think I’ll build my own eventually. Shouldn’t be too hard like folks are saying.

Make a tripod out of PVC pipe and string/duct tape and hang the fish from an extension pole sticking out from the top. It will probably cost $6 or $7 for the PVC and if you hit the stand it won't matter because the PVC is soft enough the sword will probably cut that in half.

Use a good sized salmon, and impale it on a bamboo upright. Gets you more resistance, as well as simplicity.

I’ve given such a mount thought for several years and haven’t come up with a workable solution, for me, yet. The fish test sounds interesting and my cause me to give it another and more serious try. This is the first I’ve heard of a fish test, how does it go?

This is the first I’ve heard of a fish test, how does it go? Jordan Williams has a video of him cutting a fish hung from a tree with a saber, and both him and I are active on the discord and want to see how the same test goes with very different swords. Basically the fish test is cutting a dead fish that’s strung up by its tail and suspended in the air.

After that incident on your thread I wanted to get back on track, and realized I actually had something new to say here sword related.
