I've found such pics Did cuirassiers really used lances during WWI ? I can't believe it. They also used long stirrup-leathers with straight or just slightly bent legs (I tried to ride a horse such way, without posting the trot and I really enjoyed it!) And of course French cuirassiers with armours from WWI
From what I know French cuirassier's armours were good enough against ball-and-cap guns in XIXth century but during WWI ? I don't think so... Maybe the armies of respective countries didn't keep up with the development of munitions?

Why are you so surprised? Didn't you read the explanatory captions? The photos in this article are even later (1935), and much sillier. I believe it may have something to do with influential horse cavalry generals outliving their usefulness.

Sorry, Yes I didn't read it. Sorry... But don't you think it is strange and surprising? I mean, we are talking about World War I. The Great war. The 20th century

Sorry, Yes I didn't read it. Sorry... But don't you think it is strange and surprising? I mean, we are talking about World War I. The Great war. The 20th century The use of Calvary reached into early WW2 with the Poles. Considering the German army used horses throughout WW2 its not that far fetched. "Apart from countless battles and skirmishes in which the Polish cavalry units fought dismounted, there were 16 confirmed cavalry charges during the 1939 war. Contrary to common belief, most of them were successful. The first and perhaps best known happened on September 1, 1939, during the Battle of Krojanty."
