Condolences. My sister always loved hamsters, they are cute animals Thank you, I love them a lot to, as much as a lot of people don’t like rodents they don’t always realize how gentle and fragile they can be. They can be very prone to getting illnesses and such and do not usually recover well from them, we took cosmo to the vet awhile ago because his one eye looked off and we found out he either had meningitis or cancer so even though we got him medicine it just took a toll on him that was not reverseable.

I've always considered getting one, just to have a little buddy wherever I wanted to go. I find them very cute, but I am always worried I'll be bitten Any tips on how to train them to be less.. Bitey?

Bitey? Try to get them as a baby (about 4 weeks old is when the stores can sell them and that is the time they will get attatched to you.) you actually want to go a few days without touching or picking them up and just let them get used to your scent before you handle them so they don’t get startled. If they do tend to nip a gentle blow on their face will tell them no. After a few days gradually feed them out of your hand without picking them up and then start to gently pick them up. At the end of the day they are still animals and the babies may gently nip if they smell food on your hands but are not nearly as bad as the adults. The first one I had was already like a year old and was super nasty and drew blood when he bit, getting them little is your best bet imo.

A small mammal would be a great thing to have, especially since they are usually less maintenance than a dog. Tho I love dogs

You have to decide what breed you want as well, Syrian, roborovski, djungarian, Chinese dwarf, Russian dwarf etc. I could give you more tips depending on the breed. Syrians are what cosmo was and are the biggest of the tamed hamsters as European hamsters are like the size of guinea pigs but have not been able to be tamed to date.

yeah, the rodents... so short lives. Thats why we wouldnt go away from cats. I used to have rats in my earlier years; at least they can go for 4 to 5 years. Cool little friends.
