Hello, I am currently looking for a good Japanese sword and I found this sight on Ebay: www.ebay.com/usr/fangsword2009210It has some good prices but I am curious if anyone had experience in owning one of their products and what they thought of their products. Thank you, Sebastian

Welcome to the forum Sebastian. You should go to the japanese sword sub board and read the thread titled “Yu Wei Ping”. It’s a discussion of eBay sellers. I have seen fangsword on eBay but have not bought any swords from him or any Chinese eBay seller, only second hand swords from private sellers. Good luck with your search.

Thank you, Sebastian Stay away from buying directly from a Chinese seller. There are some decent swords made in china but they are the major forges/manufacturers and best purchased thru legit retailers located here in the United States (I assume you are in the US.. if not, NEVER MIND ) Try Kult of Athena; www.kultofathena.com/They are legit, will full disclose what you are buying, not rip you off and stand behind the products that they sell.

I bought from a vendor with very similar displays a couple years back, sword was not hardened. Had a couple good experiences with Ebay vendors but more negative ones, mostly I would do as Lordnewport says if you wish to buy a sword.

Thank you, Sebastian No, this guy is a lowest-class reseller, dealing in fakes rather than replicas, e.g., this example. EVERYTHING about it is wrong, being just close enough to fool absolute novices. This sort of thing was much more common on eBay about 10 years ago. Now, thank God, it's close to extinct, but not close enough. Avoid any Chinese offering of WW II militaria, Japanese and Russian swords in particular, all of it's fake, and of abysmal quality.

You want Japanese style swords? Matthew Jensen (I think he's a member on this forum so he might pop in himself) has a TON of review videos of mostly Japanese style swords (along with other types but Japanese seems to be his focus). There are plenty of other great YouTubers that review swords, but I haven't found anyone as prolific with Japanese swords. Look through his videos and decide what seems most appropriate for you. www.youtube.com/user/KrunanThen, once you have it whittled down to a couple specific swords, check Kult Of Athena. They have the widest selection I've ever seen and have a very good reputation as a seller. I simply would not risk buying from an unknown Chinese seller. Especially not when Kult of Athena probably sells the exact same items. And if Kult of Athena doesn't have it, then it's probably not worth buying at all.

There are a few good brands out there that KoA does not sell. Motohara is higher end and they don’t sell those, they do not sell huawei blades either which are also good. Sorry not to be a tool I just wanna make sure he knows that not all brands that are not on KoA are bad.

What I meant was if it's on Ebay but not available on KoA, then most likely it's not worth buying. Though there are occasionally exceptions, as a beginner, I recommend staying AWAY from Ebay. Hell, I've been looking at and researching swords for 15 years and I stay away from Ebay! As reptaronice1 stated, there are High-End and custom swords that you can only get directly from the smiths or from other dealers besides KoA. Longship Armory (usually higher end European swords) and BuyTheSword (or is is ByTheSword?) are two other dealers that are comparable to KoA in reputation though they carry slightly less in stock than KoA. As examples, you won't find Patrick Barta's swords on KoA. That doesn't mean his swords aren't worth it. They're VERY high quality and if I could afford one, I'd jump at the chance to buy from him. Another example, you won't find all of Angus Trim's sword lines on KoA, but those are definitely worth the price anywhere you can find one!

Most high end custom makers sell directly from either their sites or via direct contact, rarely do they end up on koa as 2nd hand 1 offs

You are right a lot of Chinese eBay sellers that are direct sellers and not a company sell some shady merchandise. I like swords of northshire which is another forge that works with Ryansword. I would say if they don’t have a “contact us” or money back guarantee no way

I have not yet read what you sent and am going to after this post. I am always interested to see what people have to say as almost every company has some people that do not like it and I’m open to that opinion So I read the part about huawei and honestly from what I have seen that is rare, I had a huawei come with a cracked tsuka but 99% of people on here I have talked to like it for the price. I wouldn’t avoid them for a few mishaps and I’m sure other forum members will vouch for huawei as I assume my vouch is probably not enough.
