It's a typology, typically many swords don't fit it exactly. But you can describe a sword with: "A type Y but with Z". Haha - valid point Out of curiosity - does anyone here have the ambition to collect (or already have) one sword from each type....? Talk to Christian Short. I think he has two of every type. Or more.

And if I recall, Dave Kelly's collection is quite extensive as well!
I was just curious if people went out of their way thinking "I want to own one of each"; or was it more of a "bought too many swords, oh look, I now have at least one of each".... lol

Unless you're all out of room, there's no such thing as enough. Ideally I'd want at least one of each style, and many more of some. But that's for when I'm all grown up and rich and famous...

Well MOK - you are a Global Moderator for SBG Forum - so you have the famous part down I was curious because over the past few months I decided to see what I already had. I made a list on my phone of the "Behmer Classification", "Peterson Typology", "Wheeler Typology", and of course "Oakeshott Typology" - just to see where I currently stand. Now part of me wants to collect 'em all! Part of me worries about the bank account....

I had to review what I still retain. I have had a few more in the past but a short current list follows. A recently adopted Del Tin 2132 XII Angus Trim XIIa Angus Trim XIIIa A&A German Bastard XVIIIa Del Tin 5157 XVIIIb I am not sure I'd include my Del Tin 5160 with a one off XIX blade but it is early 16th century My only fantasy and actually placed later in history is my Windlass Headless Horseman. I guess it is an undefined So really, just five older patterns with the DT5160 kind of a tweener in time Cheers GC

I think the popularity of the Windlass Type XIV is one major factor, there. I am surprised the type XII is lagging as much as it is...Maybe its just too boring.... Just not a lot of lower-priced XII’s on the market, TBH. I don’t have one, but want one, and it looks like I’ll have to get an Albion if I want one. I own 5, so I like Albion’s, but $$$.

I'm honestly surprised at the number of xiv showing up. I'd expected xii to be more represented. TBH, I think a lot of swords sold as XIV’s are really more like XVI’s.

Most swords sold as XIV have a diamond cross section, which would speak for XVI. But one classic antique XIV has also a diamond cross section, the one in the Metropolitan Museum. myarmoury.com/feature_spotxiv.html
