Hello all-
I inherited 2 swords back in the early 2000's and wanted to share them in hopes of getting a better idea of their history and possibly value.
The backstory:
My grandfather, to whom these swords were given, served under Patton
in the 16th armored division, in Czechoslovakia- (his parents were
Czech so he spoke the language)... he saw Pilsen (mothers home) and
Praugue (fathers home)- between 1943-1945. While in Praugue during
that time he was stationed in a castle occupied by a baroness and her
husband. They became friends and upon his leaving she gave these to
him.
One has a leather scabbard/sheath a twisted wire grip- and royal
stamps on the blade as well as a tiger/crest and initials CJ or JC - it's close to 40"
long, the blade goes from 3/4" wide at the base to about 1/2" until the tip.
The other has a brass scabbard/sheath and is fairly ornate- has a bumpy
material on the grip, reptile skin or maybe stingray? A bit wider and about the same length.
Lot's of brass on the
hand guard assembly- and the blade is inscribed on both sided with the
following info-
"VIVAI:CAROLUS:DER:6:ROHMSCHER:KAYSSER:1737"
could this translate to CHARLES THE 6TH? ROMAN? KING?
I will upload/attach pics as well- I left them low res for ease of upload- I can get new pics if needed.
Just hoping to see if these are indeed special, if they need to be returned or if they have significant value that I should insure them etc.
Thank you all for any help or observations-
