Hello! I’m very interested in middle eastern/North African weapons and other antiques and artifacts, so I was wondering if there were any particular type of weapon, or weapons from a particular region that would be cheaper than any others. I’m on a fairly tight budget so I can’t afford the more expensive ones, but I’m curious if there’s any particular country of manufacture or anything like that that I should be looking for for better deals. Afghan, Pakistani, and Turkish weapons are also in my range of interest. If you know any tips, I’ll be glad to listen, and as always, thank you!

lol
Just watched a Khyber knife I couldn't decide on go for $130 on eBay. Kicking myself for not bidding, but it didn't really call me like I wanted it to.
There's tons of super affordable talwar on the market. Jambiya can be had pretty cheap. Shamshir, kilij, etc get pretty pricey.
Is there a particular type of sword you're interested in?
I'd also reach out to Timo and maybe even edelweiss, among a few others. I know there are guys on the All Swords Facebook group who have really nice stuff.

Honestly I really like all of it, although (Luckily) Jambiya are my favorite. I’ve been looking at this but it’s a little out of my range right now. I’m hoping that it’s not gone by the time I can spare enough money. I know Faganarms is reliable, I have a friend who uses them a lot, although I’m very confused my the misleading URL. Anyway, I really like Jambiya like I said. My favorites are Yemeni ones but I know those are usually a bit more expensive, and I’ll make sure to check out the stuff you recommended! . www.faganarms.com/products/copy-of-18th-century-indopersian-jambiya

www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=jambiya&_sop=16&_udhi=150eBay is one of those places where you can actually find good jambiya on the cheap. Fagan Arms has been around and holds a solid rep, but I've never dealt with them. I'm not super fond of their site design and the photos are usually lackluster. The particular knife you link is a style I've come to have a negative outlook on, as I just can't see them as "real" of that makes sense. Ceremonial, dress ornaments, sure. I don't know if I'd take one as a fighting knife. I like the beefier ones, particularly those attributed as Wahabite. They tend to be nice and long.

I do know that they aren’t supposed to be used as weapons except in extreme circumstances. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on eBay!

I feel like a lot of them are akin to a sikh's kirpan; a formality as a dress item that nobody expects to actually use, but they wear it because they can and are supposed to. Kinda like why I carry knives, but mine aren't just to look at. Just used two of my folders at a very nice steak dinner.

I love it when you keep something like that around just in case and then get to actually use it! Speaking of Jambiya however, do you know exactly why the scabbards have such a steep curve? I’ve tried to look it up but I can’t find anything. ALSO! Do you know any affordable Afghan or Punjabi (or Kashmir for that matter) items that would be fairly affordable while we’re at it?

Afghan is getting harder to come by, but like I said in my first post, I've just watched a Khyber knife go on eBay for a measly $130. There are a few more up right now; none with scabbards, though.
Pulwar (also Afghan) sometimes pop up under $500, the market for pesh kabz, choora, and karud is littered with questionable stuffs from Rajasthan etc, but you'll see a good one from time to time.
Katar go either way, khanda, pata, firanghi float around but often aren't too be found.
If there's something particular you want above all else I can keep an eye out.
Once upon a time I'd have directed you to Oriental Arms and you'd have likely had a field day, but they've drastically changed their website and don't list nearly what they used to. Not sure what happened, but I don't like it.

Do you know exactly where I should check periodically? eBay obviously, and like you said Facebook marketplace. Etsy has a lot of stuff but I’m not sure if I trust it. Not a lot of information and isn’t Etsy for crafts anyway? Either way, I’ll go check out Oriental Arms anyway and see if they’ve got anything. As for in particular, not really as far as specific types of knives etc., but I do like Islamic and Buddhist weapons.

I'd stay off Etsy, personally. Been there a time or two and never seen anything good. Bound to be exceptions, but too much digging to find. Check out the Viking Sword forums ( www.vikingsword.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=8 ) as they not only have a swap forum, but tons of threads with info and pics on so many ethnographic weapons. In there somewhere are links to sellers, also. Most of the ones I used to like have gone, shall we say, higher-end, and left me behind.

But I’ll make sure to check out Vikings word and see if I can find anything interesting, also thank you so much for your time and effort!

Ooh! Thank you so much, I really thought the old galleries were gone for good! There's a lot of invaluable reference material in there.

I was angry-sad when a picture I found on Google came up "page not found" but kids coincidentally happened to see someone link the .il on Reddit. I'm not sure how "functional" the store is, but I'm happy to see at least the archives survive. There's really too much there to loose, and I hope they never take it fully offline.
