I picked up the Devil's Edge Wasteland Chopper from KOA's big sale. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AK018&name=Devil%27s+Edge+%2D+Wasteland+Chopper+Sword
I guess it qualifies as "tactical" sword (aren't all sword tactical though?)--anyway, I though I'd provide a mini-review on this fistful of awesome.
It came with a nice edge--sharp but robust. I tested out chopping down a tree and it did quite well with no issues. The tree at issue is classified as an invasive species and a noxious weed so don't feel bad--they choke out native vegetation. It cut through 4"-5" limbs really well. The kukri style blade let's much of the 2.5 lb sword do the work for you.
It is solidly constructed of one piece of steel. The micarta scales make a nice handle though for my hand, I will likely add some tactical hockey tape to thicken the grip and improve gription (that's a perfectly cromulent word).
It comes with a nice leather sheath. I will likely add an additional snap at the throat as the blade can slide 2" or so out even with the lower snaps closed.
The D-grip looks cool, but I found it cut into my pinky while cutting. I will likely apply more tactical hockey tape to help with this. I didn't try punching anything with it as trees are notoriously resistant to punching.
Overall, I like the mad-max vibe, and it is a fun heavy chopping knife that seems designed to take a licking. It's a great value at $99 but if you want that free shipping, you're going to have to buy something else too.
I rounded my order out with a Mac Bible Chopper and a DE short kopis. I was in a chopper mood.
