I dunno, it looks like an old blade reconfigured to take later saber-style furniture (kyu-gunto?) and then refitted to more traditional mountings again.
Hard to say from the photos, though, and I don't know enough about the early patterns to know if they were threaded, peened, or just pinned like traditional katana...

Yeah, it's an older blade that was mounted as a kyu-gunto. Weird that it was later mounted as is now.

If the blade is original and quality... those hilt parts are not.

Strictly a WAG, it looks like someone has taken a military blade and rebuilt it for civilian use probably in Malaysia or other Pacific area judging from the wrappings on the scabbard.

I'm going to agree with this...it looks like it was a gunto that has been ruined in civilian hands outside of Japan. Malaysia or other Pacific Islands is a good bet but one should never under estimate the capacity of the Chinese to take anything and make it worse.

I dunno. The mounts are in bad shape, but they may be original, just badly worn.
This poor sword has certainly seen some things in its life, but destroyed, I don't think so.

... destroyed, I don't think so. Agreed, I don’t think destroyed is the proper word. I wouldn’t mind having it.

Looks odd to me. First time I have seen a thread on a nakago. I actually kinda like the primitive style look.

WAG = Feral Donkey Conjecture So FDC? FDC then equals WAG so therefore FDC = WAG which must translate to “Warning About Gingivitis”

I'll venture a SWAG. That's probably a Japanese-converted police saber blade remounted for use by Indonesians during their revolution against the Dutch. They used a lot of Japanese equipment, and katana had a certain cachet.
