Hello all, I'm a long time lurker on this forum and the SBG site in general. I'm sure my story is similar to many others. A sword fan with an interest in history (what I ended up getting my degree in.) I read the popular books and blogs, watch the YouTube channels etc.
I have a modest knife collection. I use various knives, axes, machetes, and what not while camping.
I finally decided to purchase a sword. I got a bunch of Amazon cards for Christmas, so that's where I plan on buying it (sorry KoA, I'll hit you up next.) I have a $200-$300 budget.
I'd like an arming sword, but I suppose I could be talked into a viking sword or something else. I'm looking at the Ronin Katana Euro #9 as my most likely at the moment.
I would appreciate any thoughts or comments. Is there a "better" choice on Amazon I should investigate?
Thanks

My only experience is with a Ronin #10, but I really like it.

I would heartedly advise you to put in the extra dollars and go with an H/T EMSHS instead of the Ronin #9, if you want an arming sword. The RK, while build solid, is too sluggish to make for a good arming sword. I had both, the H/T is miles above the Ronin and a very good sword at that price point. The H/T 9th century viking and H/T norman are good, too (I prefer the EMSHS). From Ronin, I can recommend the #7, but that’s a longsword resp. bastard sword.

CAS Hanwei PC2404 Tinker Early Medieval Sword www.amazon.com/dp/B01ALTHG4C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_24JbEbDKKYMKJIf so, it is well within my price range. Thanks for the tip.

That's the one. Much better blade geometry, well-made (not peened, though), very good handling.

The Hanwei/Tinker sword arrived yesterday. Looks decent, if it was a camp knife or axe I would say it's well made. Everything tight and right.
Now on to sharpening research, local HEMA clubs, and cutting tutorials, lol.
