I have posted this link in the past and have been roundly shouted down here. I don't point it as some sort of divining light but I think there are some that might learn something from it. Remove all the labels from where it was posted long ago and if reading it finds offense, that might be part of someone's chance to learn something. www.swordforum.com/vb4/showthread.php?20942-Time-to-Grow-7-Steps-Towards-Becoming-a-Better-PosterI am no saint and often regarded as terse, argumentative, baiting and to some offensive but I try not to write on subjects I have little knowledge of and will generally acknowledge references by those that have built sites and written more than any of us will know as well as those scholars do. We are all learning but there is often an opportunity to read extensively on a subject instead of writing crap off the top of one's head. I am not naming names here. There is a remarkable amount of pseudo intellect on several topical discussions that pretty much flood the floors of many of the subforums here. When I write of SBG giving me a headache, that is what I am referring to. Youthful exuberance can get carried away and I am not speaking only of the young. A great many that actually log in here every day are looking for something to read. How many note few are responding to a given thread? Why offer to promote a food fight or wade into one, right? I am the perturbed peturbateur, or pertubator if one will but my snark or disagreement is most often founded in the crap. Have a Joyous Season Cheers GC

I appreciate this. All these steps would make for better threads and better posts. Thanks for making this thread

I was actually hopping on the site for the first time in months earlier today, and was disheartened by several threads and the tone they took (made my way through a few weeks backlog to see what recent topics have been coming up). This was such a timely and refreshing post, thank you for taking the time to state this so eloquently.
Hope you are having a great holiday season G.C.
Cheers!

Can't disagree with any of this. Statements of fact need to be grounded on hard evidence.

These "revelate, not regurgitate", and "defer to refer" are wise.
