SSgt Tim Chambers stands and salutes for hours every Memorial Day while over paid sports figures can't stand for a few minutes. Tell me who the hero's are.

I feel like you are entitled to your opinion and that this topic may be too political for the forum.

Pride in your country has nothing to do with politics. But that's your opinion and you are entitled to it and I'm sure if the administrators feel the same they will take it down.

I feel like you are entitled to your opinion and that this topic may be too political for the forum. It's not about politics, it's about patriotism...no matter what the country. Being proud of ones country of origin and your fallen brethren is something to announce. It's too bad that it seems only AMERICAN videos and news articles are the only ones that get censored. Final statement....I will not say another word, Admin.

First, tread lightly, everybody. This thread is soooooo close to the edge of acceptable it's really not funny.
But second, since everybody's been civil so far... Gunnar, no slight to that man's dedication intended, but I feel like you may be conflating love for one's country with love for its government. Which is kinda weird to me, seeing as how we both come from nations founded by literal rebels.

Seems to me the majority of ... ahem ... " over paid sports figures " DO stand for the national anthem.

I've had Marines in my family two of who are recently gone now and this reminded me of them. They were also bikers.

It's perfectly okay to be proud of things you personnally achieved... everything else is pretty much just ideology.

They were also bikers. I'm sorry to hear that. We lost my great-uncle, the last veteran of the Winter War in my family, some years ago. I suppose it's just how life goes, but it's still pretty sobering to see a whole generation passing away one by one. It's perfectly okay to be proud of things you personnally achieved... everything else is pretty much just ideology. Yeah, it's not like I had any part in anything people did before I was even born. I barely have any real part in anything the country is doing now. Claiming some sort of credit-by-association for any of it feels really iffy. But on the other hand, I do feel good about being associated with the good people in my family, and similarly (albeit at six or fewer degrees of separation) with the positive things my nation has done; I guess you could call that pride, and I guess a lot of people do.

No problem with the video, but maybe some would quibble with the basketball comment, so two different things to my mind. I think athletes should do their job and talk politics in their PRIVATE lives, not on the court or field.

Hell, I feel proud to be American somedays even tho I am not one But I feel like pointing out, that many people in the developed world support those foot ball guys protest, even if USA doesn't. Not really the best topic to have on SBG. I feel like we can do better than that. 😎

While I may be personally more for the cops, my thinking was that athletes in professional sports express themselves on their own private time, just like you and I, the average Joe and Jane. Average folk keep their political & religious opinions to themselves while on the job so that the boss, customers, fellow workers don't have to deal with it, so I believe pro athletes should be held to the same standard. And I think this should go for other countries as well. Of course, what people do on their own time in their private lives is their own affair, freedom of expression wise, so long as they don't hurt others.
