If all else fails, you could possible talk with someone like David “Madmonkey” Rende to have his forge make a bronze reproduction of the hilt parts and reinstall on the sword you get.

Well, that's a pity, then. The zinc fittings pretty much make it purely decorative in my view.

Well one thought I had was... I also plan on purchasing the official United Cutlery version. Traditionally their Rohan swords are antique brass plating over metal. Then maybe try to swap them with Indy's version? It's just an idea at this point lol.
So yes, the bad news was that the company had too many issues making the Brass castings consistent, so they had to go the antique brass plated alloy route. The GOOD news, however, is they were running into similar issues with the plastic based scabbards. So they now have switched back to leather over wood core!!!

According to his RPF updates - the sword prototype is complete. Those are going into full production now. All the hilt parts have been ready for months. The 100 blades are currently being ground / polished / sharpened. The scabbard has only recently (last week or two?) been decided to go back to wood core. So this will cause a bit more of a delay... Are you getting one??

Dude, idunno... Definitely tempted by ANY functional LOTR or even inspired by LOTR steel.
I got windlass's Ranger sword, and the mercenary sword copy for these reasons (also the raptor sword from them, kinda get Orcrist vibes).
Meaning no disrespect but if i committed funds 5 years ago id be salty.
With the fittings this sounds like it may fall short of "battle ready"for me.
Sorta like the museum collection line, though I love my sting and still seek glamdring. They would likely fail in much actual use due to hilt construction.
My dream would be actual battle ready affordable LOTR swords (or even inspired by). After all Peter Jackson's versions aren't necessarily the definitive models for all those legendary weapons.
And I say this as a massive fan of the films as well as the books (the extended editions made me really love the two towers and return of the king. Always loved fellowship).
I've come to appreciate the hobbit films as well. The scene where the dwarves sing "far over the Misty mountains.. " is one of the heights of all 6 films for me.
Instantly want to adventure.

Oh nice! If possible, i'd love to see pics of the Windlass Ranger. LoL, i also have the Mercenary copy. Not a bad sword at all for the price i paid.
No disrespect from my side at least. I'm used to waiting years. I'm a patient guy lol. I'm just glad Indy managed to complete this. I think the general consensus would be very different if UC weren't coming out with their own version at roughly the same time lol.
Yeah, I'm not seeing Indy's version as "battle ready". But moreso like the "Museum Collection" version of Guthwine. It will be better made, but slightly less accurate, and much more limited. The only thing holding it back are the alloy fittings. To be fair, I'm not sure how bad the fittings actually will be? I can't recall alloy fittings being used on any other swords besides entry level katana and movie replicas. Any reports of those breaking?
If you wanted actual battle ready swords inspired by LOTR - the only ones that come to mind are Darksword.

I have really gotta figure out picture posting on this site.
My phone is a pos and always says not enough memory.
For battle ready LOTR, I have the gen2 halfling and windless ranger. The mercenary sword from some maker (got off Amazon for 89 shipped, same as strongblade deathbringer) but that's about it!
Some swords remind me of the books or films. A windlass arbedo looks a lot like glamdring from the cover of the previous LOTR cartoon.
I get a "dwarvish " vibe from the windlass runic long seax as well!
If you squint really hard for windless Italian short sword could maybe be Boromir -esq with its shorter thick wide blade and limited but flared guard.
I guess it's really the feel of the sword once you step away from official copies.
I have the MC sting and I don't think I would cut with it, but I hear reports of folks that do. Maybe very light cutting, which may also be okay for Indy's here or mc glamdring.
Peened into a softer alloy always concerns me, but I suspect it would hold up to light tasks.
Work a tire pell like that tsai guy from back in the day, Nah... Probably not lol.

Haha i agree. I don't plan on cutting with any of the movie replica swords - so i'm not too worried. Just, if there are 2 versions out there, i'd still prefer the better quality one, even if it is less accurate to the prop.
I remember back before the movies came out, there were LOTR inspired pieces. If i recall, Del Tin did 2, Cas Iberia did 1, even Franklin Mint did 1 or 2. Always thought those were quite interesting.

Oh yeah I remember those.. Del tin did an Orcrist and glamdring... Wouldn't mind grabbing those for the right price.
One of them was on eBay it went around 300 or so and I waved off. Not sure what my price threshold is for those actually lol.
Yeah anything LOTR has my attention haha.

I LOVE that shredder avatar BTW!
That movie came out when I was like 6 so it was perfect.
Man, music, effects everything is spot on!
Shredders intro is so epic. In my heart he was every bit the cool villain Vader was!
"now you face... THE SHREDDA'! "
"...a kitchen utensil?" haha.
Side bar... I'm trying really flipping hard to not order Gimlis axe off budk for 166 bucks.
I tend to favor the swords but that axe sure looks neat. It'll probably be less popular and maybe produced in lower numbers (just spitballing).

Haha i did the same thing with that Del Tin - wanted it, but wasn't sure how much i'd want to pay for it. Thanks! TMNT is by far one of my favourite movies! My goal one day is to get a fully functional metal version of his helmet made PS - BudK just had a 15% off coupon (last weekend?) - that's usually the time to buy those pieces you're on the fence about lol.

Just an update on Indy's Guthwine :
Because the scabbard had to be changed to wood, the central metal piece no longer fits, so must be remade. However, Indy still hopes everything will be done by end of this month! With a "mid to late January release"! (fingers crossed)

Darn you guys; this sword looks and sounds good! I might need it. Ugh! I'll say, a year or two ago I ordered Indy's Jack Sparrow sword and was quite disappointed. It looked cool and all. But one little flex test of the alleged carbon steel blade and it stayed bent.... Luckily he let me return it. So, I hope this one is better!

I believe Indy's been putting a lot of attention into that factory's quality control. After his Sparrow sword, he then had the factory do Montoya's Rapier (which had some issues), and latest Sword of Charlemagne (which looks great, and haven't heard of issues yet). I'm hoping with the constant holdups and redoing things due to issues, this 4th sword of his, Guthwine, will be the best yet!

New Year Update from Indy on RPF: "Just updated the middle metal part on the scabbard (not much to show there)... and hoping to have these finished and start shipping before the end of January. Fingers crossed!" So even after the forge Quarantine in December... things are still on track!

Very cool. I am almost definitely going to need one. But i was thinking of just waiting until they are available to order it. Any big disadvantage other than possibly taking a little longer to receive? It's not like it is going to sell out instantly.

Any big disadvantage other than possibly taking a little longer to receive? It's not like it is going to sell out instantly. IMO I think you should be fine. Last I checked (and this was a long time ago) only about 50 of the 100 swords were pre-sold, since a lot of people were getting tired of the wait and/or decided to stick with the UC version coming out at roughly the same time. From my experience Indy is great to work with. He won't leave you hanging. For example: some people have asked if he could sell the scabbard separately for their UC swords... he seemed for that idea, but wouldn't commit to an answer until his initial run of 100 sets are completed first.
