I'm absolutely fascinated by biology, so I think these are awesome. The infant... Mice? Maybe? Are a bit much for me though.

Those are dope. I would love to have something like that in a shelf that lit up. Glass and lights tend to have a very calming affect on me
Obviously, the contents themselves make it way cooler than this idea would be. I always wanted something like that in my own place

Imo it lacks the aesthetic qualities of the others, like the octopus for example, and doesn't give a clear view of the specimen either, so instead of seeming like something macabre, but still sort of classy and interesting it just sort of seems like something someone who wants to be emo but isn't very creative would make. The skull bottle I think adds to that. The rest is pretty neat though. Also there's just not a lot to look at with dead mice anyways, so with the infant version it's just like pinks sacks of vaguely mice like flesh.

I think it certainly CAN be artistic. Possibly a venomous snake to portray a poisoned mind. A venomous snake or other sort of creature like it would have some potential certainly.

Those octopus globes are about the coolest s**t I've seen. If I were big into Pirate lore and dressing for Ren-Fest, I would SO have one of those---with the light! I imagine a tri-corn hat on top of it, and the glow of the light glinting off two crossed cutlass with a Jolly Roger flag as a backdrop. Arrrr......

If it was a single mouse, say, then you could focus on the mouse itself as a point of interest. But having a lot of them all piled up in the bottom of the jar kinda does give the impression that the goal was shock rather than displaying something interesting. "Look! A pile of dead baby mice! Eww, huh?" 😛 Those octopus globes are about the coolest s**t I've seen. If I were big into Pirate lore and dressing for Ren-Fest, I would SO have one of those---with the light! Those octopus globes are absolutely amazing. I'm curious, where would one buy such an item?

I've examined some before in class. They can certainly be neat if done in a scientific way. I am a Bio major after all now lol.

I certainly did not intend to derail. This subforum tends to be a little informal. Apologies.

Some years ago I visited the Narrenturm in Vienna: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrenturm_(asylum)There is a public entry part, but I was in a group of collegues and we had two doctors with us. So they allowed us a visit in the non public part of the pathologic-anathomic museum. An immense amount of such anatomic specimen and wax models, but honestly hard stuff too. Sorry for derailing the thread a bit but the idea of Marty Feldman's or David Lee Roth's head in formaline in a glas has something intriguing too.

It's just that it ended up being a series of 4 posts in a row with not even a little bit of expressed interest in the actual content. I'm not interested in owning them, but I do find them interesting. When I see a brain in a jar my first point of reference is Young Frankenstein. That's all.

Any kind of diseases that genitals can show, in very progressed stadiums. And the skeletons of really malformed children in such bowls. It's an old joke here: "My brother is at the university too, in formalin because he has two heads!". Do you know the source of your pictures of human specimen? Maybe some are from the Narrenturm. That was the stuff there, with more variations. Try a google picture search for "Narrenturm".

Agreed, those octopus balls are just plain beautiful, in a delightfully Lovecraftian way. I especially love the rich shades of red in the very first one posted... Come to think of it, I'd be tempted to build a slowly rotating LED rig into the base for a lava lamp kind of effect. In a similar vein, I find the Body Worlds exhibitions deeply fascinating. Really hope I'll get a chance to see one at some point.

It's an old joke here: "My brother is at the university too, in formalin because he has two heads!". I definitely think that having a human specimen would be that ultimate hardcore level. Not sure how I would feel about having something like that in my house. Ya know, with the whole idea of a proper burial and all. Yes you can actually get human specimens too on some websites. There was one that was probably the hardest that I have seen yet and it was a child's trachea who had died from asphyxiation on a marble. The trachea is suspended in the liquid of the jar with the marble still lodged inside and visible. This one was for sale too. I didn't post it for obvious reasons. Yeah, I definitely understand the scientific need for human cadavers and what not, but using human remains as display crosses a line for me.

What I'm curious about is how are people getting these items to sell... sounds like all kinds of really sketchy circumstances. In a lab or academy is one thing. People donate for those kinds of things. If I had found out somebody at a hospital had sold my kids trachea as an amusement piece for someone's table, heads would roll.
